‘I Should Fight Winner of Fury Usyk’: ‘Day of Reckoning’ Winner Reveals Desire for Big Fight

Filip Hrgović (17-0, 14 KOs) destroyed Mark de Mori at “Day of Reckoning” in a 10-round heavyweight clash. It was a one-sided mismatch as the Croatian fighter took just 1:42 to confirm his dominance over his Australian opponent. The contest looked destined for an early finish after De Mori took a knee with the first hard shot. The corner of the Australian quickly threw in the towel, awarding Hrgović the win. Following this victory, the Zagreb-born fighter has spoken to Boxing Social about what could come next for him.

What’s Next for Hrgović?

Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury for the undisputed heavyweight championship will take place on February 17 at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. One of the belts at stake will be the IBF title, which Hrgović is ranked number one for. The Croatian heavyweight confirmed he wants a big fight next: “Well make a big fight next.”

Hrgović added: “I should fight winner of Fury Usyk.” The IBF number one contender also confirmed he expects Fury and Usyk to rematch and thus vacate the IBF strap.

Anthony Joshua, who dominated Otto Wallin at “Day of Reckoning” could be a viable next opponent for the Croatian, especially if the IBF title becomes vacant. Eddie Hearn also seemed confident a fight between Joshua and Hrgović would be next when he spoke after AJ’s win over Wallin: “It will be Hrgović against AJ for the world title (IBF).

At 1.98 m tall, the Croatian fighter would provide a challenging fight for anyone in the division. He uses his size well and often keeps moving forward. He can also fight effectively off the back foot, as proven in his victory over Zhilei Zhang. Hrgović will need to move well, whether it’s AJ, Usyk or Fury next and enforce his tactics – otherwise, he could struggle as all three have good movement and speed.
