Bruce Carrington knocks down Brayan De Gracia

On July 4, at the Cleveland State University’s Wolstein Center, Bruce Carrington will defend his WBC featherweight title against Rene Palacios on the Abdullah Mason vs Albert Bell undercard. This will be Carrington’s first title defence since he won the vacant belt against Carlos Castro by ninth-round KO. Ahead of his first title defence, Carrington spoke to Dan Rafael, revealing his desire for the future.

Bruce Carrington vs Rene Palacios

Carrington (17-0, 10 KOs) produced a career-best performance against Castro in his last fight, dominating many of the exchanges and showcasing his power. Before that, “Shu Shu” had to dig deep against Sulaiman Segawa before winning his last four bouts.

Palacios (19-0-1, 10 KOs) has won eight consecutive fights since the only blemish on his record, a majority draw against Israel Gasparrillo. The 25-year-old Mexican has also faced Segawa, defeating him by split decision in his most recent fight.

Bruce Carrington reveals future ambitions

“After this next fight, I want to unify immediately. I don’t want to take too much time because there’s not a lot of fighters that are in the featherweight division. There’s not any fighter in the featherweight division that’s been unifying their titles, and all the sanctioning bodies have been occupied in the featherweight division for some time now. Every single belt has been occupied for a period of time now.

“And there’s no fights going on. It’s kind of weird, but I feel like for me, I’m the guy that’s going to be able to make that push for things to start happening, and after that I want to become undisputed.”
