Alexis Rocha Impressive In July Return

Welterweight contender Alexis Rocha continued his short comeback from a tough loss last year with an easy ten-round decision win on Friday night over previously unbeaten Mexican Santiago Dominguez.

The 27-year-old Rocha won by scores of 99-91 on two cards and 98-92 on the third to capture the main event for Golden Boy Promotions in Indio, CA, that was streamed live on DAZN. Fight fans were also able to catch the action on the Golden Boy Promotions YouTube channel.

Alexis Rocha Defeats Santiago Dominguez by Decision

Alexis Rocha vs. Santiago Dominguez Recap

Rocha, now 25-2, 16 KOs, was the busier more effective fighter repeatedly hammering Dominguez to the body with lefts and rights throughout the bout. He also was effective in scoring with lead left hands and uppercuts on Dominguez, who was little known despite having been 27-0 coming into the fight.

Round after round saw Rocha get the better of the exchanges with Dominguez, who mainly tried to counterpunch, but couldn’t much sustained offense. Rocha would repeatedly pivot from the ropes and score by firing four and sometimes five or six-punch combinations with success.

Rocha has been trying to rebound after a brutal six-round beating that he took at the hands of Giovani Santillan in October of 2023. That fight had derailed what appeared to be an imminent title shot for Rocha. He bounced back from that loss by stopping Fredrick Lawson by a seventh-round TKO, back in March.

Post Fight Quotes

“It was a good fight. I wanted to show that I just don’t bang, I can box… He hit me a couple of times on the ropes. My coach was on me ‘don’t stay on the ropes.’  I got off the ropes. I showed something tonight,” Rocha said to DAZN in the ring post fight. He clearly learned from the Santillan defeat about not staying an easy target for his opponent.

Now, we wait to see what could be next for Rocha in the way of battling a better-named, known opponent to try to move up in the 147 lb. division.
