Predicting the 5 Most Competitive Boxing Divisions for 2025

2024 was a great year for boxing, with Riyadh Season and other promoters putting on great cards globally. 2025 looks set to be a fascinating year in boxing, with memorable matchups already confirmed in many boxing divisions. Many divisions will flourish in the next 12 months, and platforms like High Roller offer user-friendly environments to place your bets. Big Fight Weekend is bringing you five competitive boxing divisions to follow in 2025.

Five Competitive Boxing Divisions to Watch in 2025

Boxing Divisions: Lightweight

The Lightweight division is one of the most stacked boxing divisions in recent years. The current world champions are Denys Berinchyk (WBO), Vasyl Lomachenko (IBF), Shakur Stevenson (WBC) and Gervonta Davis (WBA).

A plethora of competitors sits behind these current champions, with Keyshawn Davis, Andy Cruz and Raymons Muratalla, to name just three. 2025 will surely be a competitive and entertaining one for the lightweight division. Stevenson will be appearing on the stacked Feb. 22 Riyadh Season card against rising star Floyd Schofield.

Heavyweight

2024 has been one of the best in history for the heavyweight division, with Oleksandr Usyk facing Tyson Fury twice. Daniel Dubois defeating Anthony Joshua was another huge moment in the division. The current world champions are Usyk (WBO, IBF, WBC, WBA and Ring Champion) and Daniel Dubois IBF.

It remains to be seen what happens in this premier boxing division in 2025. On Feb. 22, Joseph Parker will face Dubois for the IBF strap, while Agit Kabayel will fight Zhilei Zhang on the same bill. These two bouts will mark the beginning of another potentially historic year for the heavyweight division.

Bantamweight

The Bantamweight division was ruled by Naoya Inoue before he moved up one division. In a post-Inoue era at 118 lbs, it’s a competitive division with plenty of talented fighters. The current list of champions are Yoshiki Takei (WBO), Ryosuke Nishida (IBF), Junto Nakatani (WBC) and Seiya Tsutsumi, the WBA champ.

Behind the current champions are many fighters who are capable of winning those belts, including Takuma Inoue, who lost his WBA crown to the all-action Tsutsumi. Other dangerous competitors at 118 lbs are Daigo Higa, Charlie Edwards and the heavy-handed Brit Andrew Cain, who will face Edwards on March 15, 2025.

Super Flyweight

Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez is the king of the super flyweight division, holding the WBC and Ring magazine titles. The other titles are held by Phumelele Cafu (WBO) and Fernando Martinez (WBA), while the IBF strap is vacant.

It’s difficult to see anyone defeating “Bam” in this weight class, but there is plenty of competition for the other titles and talented fighters ready to try and upset Rodriguez. Away from the world titles, there is Kazuto Ioka, who will rematch Martinez for the WBA crown on Dec. 31. David Jimenez and Kosei Tanaka are just two other fighters to watch out for in 2025.

Super Welterweight

The super welterweight division is one of the most popular weight classes in boxing. The titles are currently occupied by Sebastian Fundora (WBO and WBC), Bakhram Mutazaliev (IBF) and WBA champ Terence “Bud” Crawford.

There have been plenty of rumours regarding unification fights, but the division has plenty of talent who are not world champions, with the heavy-handed Vergil Ortiz Jr. set to face the dangerous Israil Madrimov on Feb. 22. Serhii Bohachuk looks ready for a productive 2025 following his destructive win against Ishmael Davis. Xander Zayas and Yoenis Tellez look primed for breakthrough years in 2025, and can Tim Tszyu come back after his brutal loss to Mutazaliev? There is plenty of questions to be answered in the 154lbs division, but excitement looks guaranteed.
