Lomachenko’s Dominance Sets Stage for Potential Showdowns With Elite Lightweights

On May 11, Vasiliy Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) put on an impressive performance as he dominated George Kambosos Jr. (21-3, 10 KOs) to win the IBF lightweight title by eleventh-round TKO at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia. Fight fans in the United States could catch the action live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+. UK fight fans watched on Sky Sports, while those in Australia could do so on Main Event and Kayo. It was a dominant performance from the Ukrainian – picking his punches brilliantly throughout. His elusiveness and high output ensured he was in control throughout. Following the dominant win for Loma, attention now turns to what fight could come next for the Ukrainian.

Vasiliy Lomachenko Next Fight

Vasiliy Lomachenko Next Fight: Gervonta Davis

Gervonta Davis is preparing himself for his upcoming fight against Frank Martin on a Premier Boxing Champions card streamed on Amazon Prime. “Tank” will be defending his WBA lightweight title. Despite his upcoming fight, Davis has responded to a post on X that he would never fight Loma by saying: He’s after Frank…Let me get Frank first.”

A fight between Lomachenko and “Tank” would be a fascinating fight with both huge names in the boxing world. The elusiveness of Loma against the explosiveness of Tank would be a captivating contest.

Shakur Stevenson

Shakur Stevenson will fight again on July 6 against Artem Harutyunyan at the Prudential Center in his hometown of Newark, New Jersey. Following Lomachenko-Kambosos, Stevenson accused people of freezing him out as to why no one spoke about a possible Loma-Stevenson fight.

Top Rank CEO Bob Arum has recently teased the possibility of Lomachenko vs. Stevenson: “So if Lomachenko wins and Shakur, who is scheduled to fight in July wins, then for the fall to do a Lomachenko-Shakur fight, every serious boxing fan will be watching that in awe between two great technicians fighting for a unified title.” A fight between the two would be one for the boxing purists as both are brilliant boxing technicians.

William Zepeda

William Zepeda demolished Maxi Hughes in four rounds in his last fight on March 16. It was an impressive performance, which has left the Mexican as number one in the IBF rankings. If a unification fight is not possible for Loma, a fight against Zepeda looks most likely.

The speed of the Mexican fighter would ensure Loma would need to be at his elusive and accurate best. It remains to be seen what’s next for Loma, but it’s clear – there’s still more to come from the Ukrainian lightweight star.
