Taylor vs. Catterall Rematch: Press Conference Quotes and Prediction
Josh Taylor (19-1, 13 KOs) and Jack Catterall (28-1, 13 KOs) finally clash in a rematch over two years after their first fight.
The two fighters clash in the headliner of a Matchroom Boxing card at the First Direct Arena in Leeds, England, in collaboration with Top Rank. Fight fans can catch the action live on DAZN in over 200 countries. Those in the United States can do so on ESPN+.
In their first meeting in February 2022, Taylor won a controversial split decision that saw him remain undisputed super lightweight champion. Talks of a rematch have been around ever since, and they were going to fight on April 27. A reported eye injury to Taylor meant that the bout got postponed to this Saturday. They may not be fighting for any world title this time, but there is animosity between the two. Ahead of their May 25 clash, both men spoke at a final press conference. Below is some of what they had to say.
Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall to Finally Meet Again in Rematch
Josh Taylor
“The last fight was a stinker for both of us,” said Taylor. “Jack did a lot of holding and spoiling and slowing the pace down. I was very poor as well. So, I believe the two of us can be a lot better. It will be a better fight for the fans. Expect that on Saturday as well. I feel it’s going to be a great fight and a barnburner. The arena — I was in there on Monday — and, wow, I got a bit of a surprise. The fans are right on top of you, so it’s going to be a great experience and a great atmosphere in there. I’m looking forward to it.”
Jack Catterall
“We’ve had the delays, the setbacks, but it’s fight week,” said Catterall. “We’re here in Leeds. It’s exciting, and I’ve done all the hard work. We’re two days now from fighting, so it’s very real, and I’m very much looking forward to it.”
“We both know what stands in front of us now. We’re fighting on Saturday. All the talking is done. We’ve had the buildup. The fight is sold. Obviously, we don’t see eye to eye. I think we’re ready to make weight and fight.”
Fight Prediction
It has taken a while to get a rematch made between these two. Taylor and Catterall clearly do not like each other, which could prove to be a motivating factor when they clash. “The Tartan Tornado” has not been very active over the last four years and that may have some impact on Saturday. Expect the fight to be close, but this time Catterall walks away with the unanimous decision.
