Canelo Next Fight Date and Opponent Confirmed
On February 26, Dan Rafael reported that Canelo and PBC had split after only one fight of a three-fight deal. It was rumoured that the Mexican superstar would head back to Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing, but it now appears he will be heading back to PBC. The news of an agreement will please many in the boxing world, who will be eager to see the Mexican legend back in the ring.

Canelo Next Opponent Revealed
Rafael has now revealed on the “Big Fight Weekend Podcast” that there has been somewhat of a “U-turn,” and Canelo will be heading back to PBC and Amazon Prime after a short time apart. The fight date of May 4 has been confirmed, with Jaime Munguia as the opponent.
And, there’s another “twist”-broadcast partner. Rafael further reported the May 4 bout – will also be offered through DAZN pay-per-view. Hear his breakdown on the podcast by clicking below,
This is a hugely positive outcome for Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions, as this will arguably be the highest-profile fight of the year for PBC’s new pay-per-view deal with Amazon – thus, ending weeks of speculation.

Munguia is fresh from an impressive stoppage win against John Ryder, which showed a more calculated, intelligent side of the Mexican under the tutelage of Freddie Roach. His power and shot selection were brilliant during the fight.
Stalled Negotiations
Alvarez was seemingly lined up – to face Jermall Charlo for the undisputed super middleweight championship, but this fight option was not received well in the boxing world – with Canelo and PBC unable to reach an agreement for the matchup. These negotiation struggles led the Mexican to explore other options, but eventually.

The Negotiations with Matchroom Boxing also seemed to stall, leading Canelo to come “back to the table” with PBC – which has brought about this new agreement and a May 4 showdown with Munguia.
Rafael further reported that the new agreement with Alvarez is said to be a one-fight deal, allowing Canelo to freely shop his proposed bout in September to all interested in that PPV.
PBC’s first event with Amazon’s Prime Video will be the Tim Tszyu vs. Keith Thurman clash in Las Vegas on PPV.
