Mike Tyson names four fighters that stand out to him

Mike Tyson remains one of the most recognisable characters in boxing, and at the age of 58, proved his popularity remains above many in sport when he faced Jake Paul and “60 million households” around the world tuned in. Recently, Iron Mike spoke to Casino.org and was asked about active fighters that stand out to him.

Mike Tyson’s career recapped

Mike Tyson is a mythical figure in the world of boxing. He survived a broken upbringing to become one of the most feared amateur fighters under the tutelage of Cus D’Amato and Kevin Rooney. After turning pro, Iron Mike fought 18 times in his first 12 months as a pro, stopping every opponent. His reputation was fierce and scary, and he lived up to this throughout his career.

His ring walk in 1988 against Michael Spinks was iconic for just how intimidating it was. A huge booming sound of clanging metal accompanied Tyson as he strode menacingly towards the ring and proceeded to knock out Spinks in 91 seconds. Other memorable wins came against Donovan Ruddock, Trevor Berbick, and Frank Bruno, among others.

Tyson had plenty of problems inside and outside the ring, but in his prime, before his 1992 conviction for the rape of 18-year-old Desiree Washington, he was the most feared fighter on the planet. His humble upbringing, combined with his devastating power, made him revered by the public. His legacy will live on for generations, and aside from his fight with Jake Paul, Iron Mike still appears to carry a deep affinity for boxing.

Tyson names four standout fighters

Speaking to Casino.org, Tyson was asked what fighters stand out to him:

“You got so many good fighters. Name any division. David Benavidez. You got Tank (Gervonta Davis). You got Shakur Stevenson. You got Keyshawn Davis, he’s a great fighter. There’s so many great fighters on the up,” said Tyson.

It’s great to see Tyson still so passionate about the sport, and his mentioning Benavidez is of no surprise to anyone who saw Iron Mike walk Benavidez out before his dominating stoppage win over Gilberto Zurdo Ramirez.

It remains to be seen what comes next for Tyson. He has been heavily linked with an exhibition fight against Floyd Mayweather. Regardless of what he does next, Tyson’s legacy is secure!
