Jarrell Miller vs. Lenier Peró fight recap
Jarrell Miller (28-1-2, 22 KOs) picked up his second win of the year with a unanimous decision against Lenier Peró (13-1, 8 KOs).
Scores for their bout were 117-111 (x2) and 115-113. Due to the fight being an eliminator for the WBA heavyweight world title, Miller now finds himself in line to challenge titleholder Oleksandr Usyk with the win. The American had fought earlier this year against Kingsley Ibeh, winning via split decision.
The opening round saw both fighters attempt to establish the jab. Few power shots were thrown with Peró having some success in landing them. Both men increased their output in round two. Miller saw himself getting outboxed as his opponent was able to punch and move.
Things took a turn in the third. With Peró’s back against the ropes, Miller closed the distance and the pair traded punches at close range. The American started to have his way, landing the harder punches on the inside. Peró got hit with several uppercuts as well as hooks to the head and body.
Miller pulled away thanks to an approach that saw him throw a high volume of punches at close range. Peró abandoned the approach that gave him success in the first two rounds. While he had some success fighting on the inside, it was mostly one-way traffic from Miller. It came as no surprise that all three judges had the fight for Miller, whose aggressiveness from round three onwards ultimately helped him emerge victorious.
