Recap of Mbilli vs. Murdock
From the first round in this fight, it was all action, with Mbilli cutting off the ring well and marauding forward, throwing bombs at a game Murdock. The Cameroon native delivered massive punishment to Murdock, who tried his best to trade and be competitive.
Mbilli continued to throw big left hooks, uppercuts and right hands. It was a miracle the Australian was still standing. Before the sixth round, Murdock’s trainer made it clear he needed to see something from his man – and he subsequently had his best round of the fight and bloodied the nose of his opponent before Mbilli unloaded with a combination of spiteful punches at the end of the round. As he returned to his corner, his trainer Chris Carden, decided to wave off the fight, awarding Mbilli the victory by sixth-round TKO.
Following the fight, the Cameroon native said: “I know Canelo is the best. Everyone knows that Canelo is the best,” Mbilli said. “Now I want to show I am the best in the division. That’s why my goal is to fight Canelo. I will do everything I can do to fight Canelo. Let’s go.”
David Morrell Jr.
David Morrell Jr. has quickly made a name for himself in the super middleweight mix, winning all ten contests, with nine by KO. The Cuban sensation has proved he possesses plenty of power, as seen with his one-round destruction of Mario Abel Cazares.
Morrell Jr. carries power in both hands, lightening hand speed, and impressive reflexes. His arsenal of punches are stunning and a huge problem for any opponent he faces. He punches brilliantly from a variety of angles, making him a joy to watch but a nightmare for any fighter. A potential fight against Mbilli would seemingly guarantee plenty of action.
Winner of Jaime Munguia vs. John Ryder
On Saturday, January 27, Jaime Mungia faces John Ryder at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The winner of this fight would be a great opponent for Mbilli and be competitive. The Cameroonian showed during his destruction of Murdock – he can be careless, as the Australian tagged him a couple of times.
Mungia has a good chin and will walk forward and continue to throw punches, making a potential fight with Mbilli a mouth-watering prospect. The Mexican-born fighter showed his toughness in his absolute war against Sergiy Derevyanchenko.
John Ryder has enjoyed a career renaissance over recent years, with wins over Danny Jacobs and Zach Parker and a morale-boosting showing against Canelo Alvarez. It’s a great opportunity for him against Mungia and a fight Ryder can win. The British Southpaw is a brilliant pressure fighter and will look to get in close to his opponent and unload. The English fighter needs to throw combinations quickly and with intent before keeping his guard up and remaining wary of Mungia’s power.
