Jermall Charlo Arrested Again Friday For Assault

The legal troubles for WBC Middleweight Champion Jermall Charlo continue. This time he’s been arrested in his home area of Houston on suspicion of assault.

TMZ reported Friday afternoon that the 31 year-old Charlo was taken into custody in Fort Bend County, (Houston) Texas on charges of “felony assault on a family/household member”

From their report,

A Fort Bend County Jail official tells us … the 31-year-old was booked at around 1:30 PM CT after a warrant for his arrest was issued by the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office.

According to jail records, Charlo was booked on a felony charge of assaulting a family/household member with a previous conviction. His bond was set at $10,000, though records show he’s still in custody.

According to court documents, obtained by TMZ Sports, Charlo’s arrest stems from an alleged September 21, 2021 incident in which he’s accused of “punching or grabbing” a man.

Officials in the docs say the man was injured in the alleged altercation. They also say the man was a member of Charlo’s “family or household.”

Charlo’s latest arrest comes on the heels of a previous robbery charge in connection with an incident at a San Antonio, Texas sports restaurant last June.

As we wrote previously, Charlo was eventually cleared of those charges two weeks ago with the Bexar County (San Antonio) prosecutor’s office declining to prosecute. This, after witness statements and a video tape backed up Charlo’s claim that it was a mix-up / dispute over his credit card that did not actually rise to the level of felony violence or robbery.

Charlo got into a dispute at the restaurant on the night before his twin brother Jermell fought Brian Castano for the Undisputed Jr. Middleweight title in San Antonio. That dispute was over whether or not his credit card had been declined and whether he had grabbed the waitress in an altercation to take his card back or not?

Charlo, through his attorney, denied the robbery charges and the attorney maintained from the outset that there were witnesses with Charlo that disputed the restaurant’s account. And, most importantly, the video backed up Charlo’s version of what happened. Prosecutors in San Antonio obviously agreed.

The latest arrest complicates the ongoing negotiation between Charlo, Premier Boxing Champions and Undisputed Super Middleweight Champion, Canelo Alvarez. Alvarez wants to defend his championships on “Cinco de Mayo” weekend in May in Las Vegas. And, Big Fight Weekend has a source that says its been the front runner for the future Hall of Famers next bout.

However, Alvarez apparently also has a deal on the table to fight Russian WBA Light Heavyweight titleist Dmitry Bivol, as part of a two fight deal with Matchroom Boxing. And, that fight could easily replace the proposed Charlo fight on the same date in Vegas.
