Ben Whittaker vs. Conor Wallace fight recap
Ben Whittaker (13-0-1, 9 KOs) overcame a late rally to defeat Conor Wallace (17-2, 12 KOs) by unanimous decision.
Scores were 117-111, 116-112, and 115-113. The bout was an eliminator for the IBF light heavyweight world title currently held by Dmitry Bivol. Whittaker is now first in line to challenge for the belt.
After a quiet opening round, Whittaker began finding openings in the second. An overhand left briefly rocked Wallace in round three, causing his opponent to throw a flurry of shots. A small cut appeared over the left eyebrow of the Irishman as a result.

As the fight entered the middle rounds, Wallace found moments of success with straight punches. However, Whittaker landed the more eye-catching shots and appeared the more relaxed of the two. Both men showboated throughout the bout (especially Whittaker), but there was not much going on to excite viewers. The Englishman was mostly in control and winning rounds thanks to his superior boxing ability.
Wallace landed several straight lefts to the head in the tenth. Whittaker was not as elusive now and he got tagged repeatedly in the final three rounds. He went to the canvas multiple times in the twelfth, each being ruled a slip. Whittaker resorted to holding in a bid to make it to the final bell. Wallace did what he could to get the stoppage with his opponent hurt and exhausted, but it ultimately proved to be too late as he wound up losing on the scorecards.
