Demetrius Andrade on Benavidez Battle – ‘Get Your Popcorn’
Former WBO middleweight champ Demetrius Andrade will step on his biggest stage yet, when he battles fellow unbeaten former WBC 168 lb. world champ (current “interim” titleholder) David Benavidez on PPV Saturday nigh in Las Vegas.
And, for the outspoken and humorous Andrade, he’s ready for the challenge.
Andrade and Benavidez met with the media for their final press conference Tuesday afternoon and the 35 year old Providence, RI, native made clear he intends for it to be entertaining.

Demetrius Andrade Ready for Benavidez Fight
“Get your popcorn ready. Iâm excited for this bout. Iâve been patiently waiting and this is the greatest fight that can be made at 168 pounds right now. Weâre two fighters who are willing to make it happen. No fuss, no fight. Iâm just ready to go. Itâs war time,” Andrade said Tuesday.
“David and I agreed to make this happen and now weâre here. At the end of the day, I have nowhere to go and he has nowhere to go. May the best fighters fight each other. Thatâs what weâre proving and thatâs what weâre doing.”
The Two Top Super Middleweights
Andrade is correct, as he and Benavidez are the top two names for contenders at 168 lb. and it’s likely, especially if Benavidez wins, that one of them gets a 2024 shot at undisputed champ Canelo Alvarez. For his part, Alvarez, who just defended September 30th in a 12 round decision over Jermell Charlo, intends to be back in the ring for “Cinco de Mayo” weekend in May and a likely in a Las Vegas PPV defense.
The Mexican fighter is in line for a shot, while holding the WBC’s interim belt, and obviously, that’s a reward for Andrade, should he come out victorious on Saturday night.

The task for the southpaw Andrade won’t be easy, as Benavidez is an aggressive fighter, who will likely take the action to him – as proven by his impressive performance against Caleb Plant. However, Andrade is counting on his movement and defensive style to frustrate the Mexican-American in this one.
However, Andrade, who made five defences of his WBO middleweight title has championship experience, as well.
One thing is for certain- it’s high stakes for titles and lots of money in a future fight for whoever comes out on top.
