Rafael also states as per sources, the planned unification bout is being eyed for the main event slot of a DAZN card on July 19 in Dallas. Robert Garcia who trains Bam was working on the undercard of Ennis-Stanionis and was briefed on the Rodriguez plans, according to one source.

Bam (21-0, 14 KOs) has dazzled throughout his professional career, with impressive wins over Sunny Edwards and Juan Francisco Estrada. He is on many people’s pound-for-pound list and rightfully so. Following his most recent win over Pedro Guevara, Hearn and Rodriguez made it clear they want unification fights: “Right now we need to see (Rodriguez) unify the division,” Hearn said. “He unified at flyweight. We want to see him unify at (junior bantamweight).”

Regarding a unification bout, Rodriguez said, “I’m ready right now.”

Phumelele Cafu: The Open Option

Phumelele Cafu (11-0-3, 8 KOs) appears the only option available for Rodriguez with WBA champ Fernando Martinez set to face Kazuto Ioka in a rematch on May 11. The vacant IBF title will be contested by Willibaldo Garcia and Rene Calixto in a rematch, potentially on May 23 in Mexico. Cafu has previously made it clear what he wants: “My goal is to be undisputed, and I want to fight the big names in the division, like ‘Bam’ and Martinez,” Cafu said.

Whoever is next for Bam Rodriguez, the boxing world will tune in – the San Antonio fighter is pure box office.
