Tyson Fury’s manager discusses potential rematch for ‘The Gypsy King’
On July 24, at the Max Muaythai Stadium in Pattaya, Thailand, Tyson Fury will face Mariusz Wach in a heavyweight bout designed as a warm-up fight before facing Anthony Joshua later this year. Fury revealed on his Instagram that the fight will not be streamed live but will be a part of his Netflix TV show, At Home with the Furys, season 3. Ahead of this fight, Fury’s manager, Spencer Brown spoke to Playbook Boxing, teasing a potential rematch for “The Gypsy King” against an old foe.
Tyson Fury vs Mariusz Wach ahead of Joshua showdown
With Joshua due to face Kristian Prenga (20-1, 20 KOs) on July 25, that weekend could bury hopes of a Joshua-Fury (35-2-1, 24 KOs) showdown or finally lead to a confirmation of the fight, including a date and location.
Speaking via a Queensberry press release, Fury said regarding his comeback fight against Wach (39-13, 20 KOs):
“2026 is a landmark year for me in boxing, and I’m excited to be able to bring this event to Pattaya, a part of the world that is special to me.
“We’re coming together to put on a great show for the fans, while using the opportunity to give back to the local community, who have been so good to me every time I have visited.
“At the same time, I’m fully focused on preparing for a tough opponent and making sure I’m the best version of Tyson Fury going into fight night. It’s the start of a huge second half of the year for me.”
Spencer Brown teases potential rematch for Tyson Fury
Wladimir Klitschko (64-5, 53 KOs) last fought in 2017, losing to Anthony Joshua, and despite being 50 years old, “Dr Steelhammer” continues to be linked with a return to professional boxing. Teasing a potential Tyson Fury-Wladimir Klitschko rematch, and a possible opponent for Agit Kabayel, Spencer Brown told Playbook Boxing: “The other fight for Klitschko is Tyson Fury, because that’s who dethroned him. That’s who I think he’s had the needle to all this, and he’s got an itch he wants to scratch with that one. That’s a possible fight. I think the number 1 would be Agit Kabayel in Germany.
“Could you imagine that? Fighting for a WBC world title that which he held for a long time, and it would be huge. You wouldn’t have a stadium big enough to fill that. That’d be the oldest fighter ever to try and regain his title, wouldn’t it? It’d be historical.”
Whether Wladimir Klitschko returns at 50 remains to be seen. Routine wins for Fury and Joshua (29-4, 26 KOs) are expected before they finally collide later this year. Oleksandr Usyk may have vacated his heavyweight titles, but the heavyweight division has plenty of life left in it.
