Anthony Olascuaga vs. Andy Dominguez promoter given notice for winding-up company
A company that wanted to break the record for largest crowd assembled at a boxing event with Anthony Olascuaga and Andy Dominguez headlining has been given notice to wind-up.
An official note in The Gazette published on July 1 reports that iVisit Media Ltd. has been given notice to wind-up. The resolutions for winding-up were passed on June 30 as a special resolution and an ordinary resolution respectively. Fight Opinion were the first to report the development.
The notice read as follows: “That [iVisit Media Ltd] be wound up voluntarily and that Siann Huntley (IP No. 19130) and Nicola Elaine Layland (IP No. 017652) both of Leonard Curtis, Sophia House, 28 Cathedral Road, Cardiff, CF11 9LJ be and are hereby appointed Joint Liquidators of the Company for the purposes of the winding up of the Company and that any act required or authorised under any enactment to be done by the Joint Liquidators may be done by all or any one or more of the persons for the time being holding such office.”
iVB Boxing was ‘the live-events arm’ of iVisit Media Ltd
An announcement earlier this year claimed that Olascuaga would defend his WBO flyweight world title against Dominguez on July 11 at the Civic Center Plaza in San Francisco, CA. A press release claimed that Sampson Lewkowicz would serve as lead promoter of the event alongside iVB Boxing CEO Ed Pereira. The website for iVB Boxing claims that it is “the live-events arm” for iVisit Media, the very company that has been given notice to wind-up.
BoxingScene reported in June that the Olascuaga-Dominguez fight card would no longer take place at the Civic Center Plaza, but instead at a 2,500-seat venue in Las Vegas, NV. “Logistical problems” were cited as the reason for scrapping the event in San Francisco. Lewkowicz reportedly told BoxingScene that the event would still take place in July. However, the fight card remains unscheduled as this piece goes published. Of the two fighters set to clash in the planned main event, only Dominguez has commented on the cancellation (albeit vaguely).
The San Francisco Chronicle also covered the cancellation in June. They reported that Silverback, an events production company, had withdrawn their permit application to host the event. iVB Boxing confirmed the card’s cancellation after Silverback’s withdrawal and both companies cited “growing logistical concerns” for their actions.
Bold claims had been made for Anthony Olascuaga vs. Andy Dominguez fight card
The press release for Olascuaga-Dominguez had made bold claims about the event. Among them was that organizers were seeking to break the record for the largest crowd ever assembled at a boxing event. The number to beat, according to Guinness World Records, is 135,132. That was the number of people who were at a free to attend fight between Tony Zale and Billy Pryor in 1941 at Juneau Park in Milwaukee, WI.
The iVB Boxing press release also claimed that the likes of Vito Mielnicki Jr. and Charly Suarez would fight in separate bouts on the undercard. YouTube was to broadcast the entirety of the event. A press conference formally announcing the event featured ring announcer Jimmy Lennon Jr., Sky Sports Boxing commentator Andy Clarke, and former world champion Christy Martin. San Francisco mayor Daniel Lurie had also endorsed the event according to The San Francisco Chronicle.
In spite of the bold claims and high profile individuals associated with the planned event, there now appears to be no plan for the card to go forward. Should it ever come to fruition, it will have to be without iVisit Media as they now deal with a notice to wind up.
