Abdullah Mason vs. Albert Bell fight recap
Abdullah Mason (21-0, 18 KOs) rallied late to defeat Albert Bell (28-0, 9 KOs, 1 NC) by twelfth round technical knockout.
The official time of stoppage was 0:45. Mason remains the WBO lightweight world champion with the win. He won the title against Sam Noakes in November last year. This was Mason’s first defence. He was originally slated to face Joe Cordina. However, the Welshman revealed in June in a social media post that he had been denied a visa to enter the United States. Cordina is also due in court on July 7 after he was charged “with assault and threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place.”
Mason targeted the body early on, but found himself getting caught whenever he tried closing the distance. Bell stayed on the outside and was able to outbox the reigning champion from that distance. A small cut opened by the left eye of Mason after a head clash in round two.

Bell continued to outbox his opponent as the fight entered the middle rounds. Mason struggled to get his offence going in the first half of the contest against a defensively sound fighter. He kept coming forward in pursuit of Bell. This approach began to pay dividends in the seventh.
Mason threw and landed several of his power punches in round eight, particularly to the body. Bell appeared to fatigue as the fight entered into the final third and struggled to defend himself against the body shots. His was offence was limited at this point of the bout as he looked to defend himself from Mason’s aggression.

Mason immediately landed a series of hooks to the head at the beginning of round 12 that sent his opponent to the canvas. Although Bell got up, he was soon dropped again by a left hook upstairs. It was at that point the referee stepped in to put an end to proceedings. Bell might have been able to continue, but it did seem like fight was nearing its end. In the end, Mason got the technical knockout win and kept his world title.

Bruce Carrington vs. René Palacios fight recap
Bruce Carrington (18-0, 10 KOs) overcame some late adversity to win a clear unanimous decision against René Palacios (19-1-1, 10 KOs).
Scores were 118-110, 117-111, and 116-112. Carrington remains the WBC featherweight world champion with the victory. He won the title earlier this year against Carlos Castro. This was Carrington’s first defence.
The opening round saw the pair mostly posturing at each other. Carrington got busier as the fight progressed. He consistently utilized the jab and it allowed him to set up other shots. Palacios appeared unsure of how to deal with the reigning champion. It came as no surprise that Carrington was up after four rounds of action (Note: The Ohio Athletic Commission allowed the use of WBC open scoring for this bout).

Palacios continued to pursue his opponent around the ring without any offence of substance. Carrington moved off of the back foot and outworked the challenger as he did so. There were moments where Palacios closed the distance and let his hands go, but such moments were few and far between. In round eight, Carrington went down after being hit with a right hand. The sequence was ruled a slip by the referee, but the punch itself also landed to the back of the head (i.e. it was an illegal blow).

Palacios was much more aggressive in the final third of the fight. He hurt Carrington to the body in round 11 and the reigning champion clearly did not like those shots, covering the right side of his body. Palacios was unable to capitalize on that success, however, as Carrington spent much of round 12 on the back foot and using his jab to keep the Mexican away. The reigning champion stayed on his feet till the final bell and wound up the victor.
