Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury: Tyson Fury trying to tempt Anthony Joshua to face off in the ring after his win over Arslanbek Makhmudov

Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury feels like it’s closer than the dream it’s been for a decade. Turki Alalshikh has confirmed we can expect to see Fury vs AJ on a date and at a venue to be confirmed. Anthony Joshua quickly made it clear that he wanted a warm-up fight before facing “The Gypsy King” and will face Kristian Prenga on July 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Fury had been heavily rumoured to be fighting on August 1, but it has now been announced that he will fight on July 24 against the experienced Polish heavyweight Mariusz Wach. With Joshua vs Fury feeling closer, AJ sat down to discuss his comeback and the likely clash with the “Gypsy King,” where Joshua delivered a promise ahead of a planned showdown with Tyson.

Joshua (29-4, 26 KOs) was last in action at the end of 2025, stopping Jake Paul in the sixth round. However, after that victory, Joshua was involved in a devastating car crash in Nigeria, which claimed the lives of his two close friends, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele. Despite being rescued from the vehicle, many wondered if we would see AJ in the ring again, but the Brit will return on July 25, and how he performs will tell us a lot about what’s left for a potential Fury showdown.

Fury (35-2-1, 24 KOs) returned to the ring after a 15-month layoff on April 11, 2026, defeating Arslanbek Makhmudov. Before that, “The Gypsy King” lost twice to Oleksandr Usyk, leading him to once again announce his retirement after the rematch loss against the Ukrainian.

AJ sounds confident ahead of planned Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury clash

With Fury fighting the day before Joshua in Thailand, should Fury be successful and AJ beat Prenga, it feels like an announcement for Anthony Joshua will follow the AJ fight, should he win as expected.

Talking to Eddie Hearn and Frank Smith of Matchroom Boxing, Joshua appeared confident that his own ability would be enough against the “Gypsy King,” regardless of what version of Fury shows up.

“I can see ways to beat Fury. I’m not banking on Fury, whether he’s gonna be his best or his worst, for me to win. I’m just confident in myself that I can beat Fury, whether he’s at his best or his worst.

“I just know with the work that I’m doing (with Team Usyk), I’ll beat Fury if that makes sense. I’m not worrying about his performance at Tottenham. I’m not worrying about how many warm-up fights he has, how good he’s looking. I’m just confident in me turning up, being the man across the ring, and doing exactly what I know I’m going to do to him,” said Joshua.
