Oshae Jones (9-0, 3 KOs) will soon put her IBF super welterweight world title at stake against Elia Carranza (11-2, 3 KOs) in a rematch.
Their bout headlines a Most Valuable Promotions card at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, FL. Fight fans in the United States can catch the action live on ESPN and ESPN+. The pair first met in July last year with Jones winning via split decision.
Both women spoke at a press conference ahead of their June 13 contest. Below is some of what they had to say.
Oshae Jones vs. Elia Carranza 2 press conference quotes
Oshae Jones
“From the first fight, I learned that she was tougher than I expected,” said Jones. “She was very durable. She didn’t come just to lie down. She really wanted the belts.”
“This time I’m going to make it more clear. I’m going to show why I’m on another. I’m going to show why I’m the champion.”
Elia Carranza
“I am excited to be here,” said Carranza. “I’m excited to put this all behind us and put it to rest.”
“I feel like I’m going to come in and do way more than I did last time and really do what I need to do to solidify my name in women’s boxing to take home those belts.”
Fight prediction
Although one judge had Carranza winning the first fight between the pair 100-90, it is difficult to see how earth that was possible. Jones was the busier fighter and appeared to have done enough to secure the victory by unanimous decision. Carranza definitely kept things competitive, but the reigning champion was just better. Expect Jones to be the busier fighter once more and win the rematch by unanimous decision.
