Anthony Joshua reveals key improvements under Team Usyk
On July 25, at the Jeddah Super Dome, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Anthony Joshua will face Kristian Prenga. Should AJ win as expected, Turki Alalsahikh has confirmed we can expect to see Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua on a date and at a venue to be confirmed, with many rumours suggesting Q4 this year.
Fury recently returned to action, defeating Arslanbek Makhmudov. Fury vs Joshua feels closer than ever. Oleksandr Usyk has defeated Joshua and Fury twice, but the Ukrainian is firmly in the AJ camp for any potential fight with Fury. While speaking at the launch press conference, Joshua revealed the improvements made under Team Usyk.
Anthony Joshua joins Team Usyk
Despite sharing 24 rounds together, it appears Anthony Joshua (29-4, 26 KOs) and Oleksandr Usyk are closer than ever. Team Usyk helped AJ prepare for Jake Paul and are now fully in charge of his comeback vs Prenga (20-1, 20 KOs). This will be Joshua’s first fight since he was involved in a fatal car crash that took the lives of his close friends Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele.
The partnership between Usyk and Joshua is an intriguing one that’s been praised by Eddie Hearn.
Anthony Joshua reveals improvements made
When speaking at the launch press conference for his July 25 fight with Kristian Prenga, Joshua spoke about changes he’s made since joining Oleksandr Usyk:
“Fitness. Not just fitness for running, but boxing fitness. IQ. When I say that, I mean like defence. I understand it. I can really read punches again. My eyes are fully locked in, and just my focus. I can just see it again. I can see the punches. I can read the opponent really well. I’m gonna respect everything when it comes to boxing, and really give my respect to my opponent and his team.
“I’m gonna respect the sport of boxing, and that’s what I’ve improved, my focus. There’s a certain level of energy that it takes to be a championship fighter, and you can’t be anywhere underneath that if you wanna be good. When you align your energy to that, everything becomes easy. That’s basically where I’ve put my energy again, fully in boxing, and I’m fully focused, and that’s why I feel myself improving again.”
