Title fights from around the world: Caroline Veyre wins foul-fest; Christian Medina retains

Today, boxing world title fights take place around the globe and are more accessible to watch than ever before. Sometimes, championship bouts do not receive as much attention and go underreported. Big Fight Weekend commits to writing about boxing news, previews and recaps. As such, the site now has a recurring segment on championship bouts from around the world from the past week.

The focus of these pieces will be on clashes ranging from atomweight to heavyweight that had the WBA, WBC, IBF, and/or WBO titles on the line. This week’s edition of “Title Fights From Around the World” consists of two recaps. Read on to see how they went.

Caroline Veyre wins foul-fest against Delfine Persoon

Four points were deducted over the course of 10 rounds, but Caroline Veyre (11-1, 0 KOs) ultimately won a unanimous decision against Delfine Persoon (50-4, 20 KOs, 2 NCs).

Scores for their bout were 98-88, 95-91, and 94-92. Veyre is now the WBC super featherweight world champion with the victory. Alycia Baumgardner had vacated the title last year, allowing it to be put at stake for this fight.

Veyre-Persoon took place on a Feb. 10 Salita Promotions card at the GLC Live at 20 Monroe in Grand Rapids, MI. Fight fans around the world could catch the action live on DAZN.

The bout itself was tough to watch. Persoon looked to come forward but was met with several clinches. She lost a point in round four for hitting behind the head, something that happened during a clinch. In the fifth, Veyre was deducted a point for holding. Round seven saw Persoon lose a point once again for hitting behind the head. Veyre also lost another point for holding in the ninth. The Canadian was ultimately victorious thanks to her faster hands, but it is unlikely she made many new fans with her world title-winning performance.

Christian Medina retains against Adrian Curiel

Christian Medina (27-4, 19 KOs) got the unanimous decision victory against Adrian Curiel (26-7-1, 5 KOs).

Scores for their clash were 120-108, 116-112, 115-113. Medina remains the WBO bantamweight world champion with the victory. He won the title in 2025 against Yoshiki Takei. This was his first defence of the WBO belt.

Curiel adopted an aggressive approach and was consistently coming forward. However, the former light flyweight world champion struggled to impose his style against his bigger opponent. Medina had little trouble targeting the head and body of the challenger. Despite the size difference, Curiel stuck with his approach and remained on his feet until the final bell. Medina was simply better on the night, getting his hand raised and retaining his world title.
