Ryan Garcia names who he wants next and reveals his pick for Romero vs Lopez
On September 12 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV, Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn will headline a co-promoted card between Zuffa Boxing and Golden Boy Promotions, with Garcia’s WBC welterweight title on the line. Fight fans in the United Kingdom and Ireland will be able to catch the action live on DAZN, while the rest of the world can watch the event on Paramount+.
Before then, on August 22, Rolly Romero will defend his WBA welterweight title against Teofimo Lopez, and Ryan Garcia has spoken to The Ring Magazine, giving his prediction for that bout and who he would like to face next.
Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn set for September 12
Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn is a fight many boxing fans are looking forward to. Neither is a stranger to controversy, with both making it clear they don’t think much of the other.
The build-up has been lively so far, and the needle should increase the closer we get to fight night. However long it lasts on September 12, we should get plenty of action.
Benn (25-1, 14 KOs) shocked the boxing world when he left Matchroom Boxing and moved to Zuffa Boxing. In his first fight with them, he defeated Regis Prograis. His biggest win remains the rematch victory over Chris Eubank Jr, which proved to be his last bout with Eddie Hearn.
Garcia (25-2, 20 KOs) was back to his dominant best last time, defeating Mario Barrios to become the WBC welterweight world champion. This was a return to form after a shock defeat to Rolly Romero.
Recently, Teofimo Lopez Sr has teased his son fighting the winner of Garcia-Benn should he defeat Rolly:
“That’s a good fight, and I think we’ll take the winner of that. Whoever wins (Garcia-Benn), it’ll be a great fight (Teofimo vs the winner),” said Teofimo Sr to Fight Hub TV.
Ryan Garcia predicts Romero vs Lopez and names who he wants next
Speaking to The Ring Magazine, Garcia made it clear who he wants to face next, should he defeat Benn on September 12.
“I wanna fight Teofimo vs Rolly, the winner.”
When asked who will win between Rolly Romero and Teofimo Lopez, Garcia said:
“Probably Teofimo. I feel like Teofimo has his number. I think the sparring is going to play a part in it. I feel like they’re both gonna have a sense of hesitation, because of the sparring.
“When Teofimo really believes in himself, he didn’t seem like he was confident with Shakur at all, in the lead-up. But I think this fight, he knows what to do to Rolly.”
