Mick Conlan vs Jack Bateson: All Results on September 5

Mick Conlan vs Jack Bateson

Next up was the main event, with Mick Conlan (20-3, 10 KOs) facing Jack Bateson (20-2-1, 6 KOs) for the vacant WBC international featherweight title. It was a fairly quiet opening round, with both fighters feeling their way into the fight. During the first two rounds, Bateson controlled the distance well, negating the threats of Conlan, before both fighters landed almost simultaneously in the third, leading to Bateson touching down and the referee awarding the Irish fighter a knockdown.

The fight completely turned in the fourth, when Conlan landed a beautifully timed left-right combination with Bateson getting up quickly, but having seemingly hurt his ankle, leaving the referee no option but to wave the fight off, with Conlan the new WBC international featherweight champion.

Ben Marksby vs Senan Kelly

In the penultimate fight before the main event, it was Ben Marksby (13-0, 2 KOs) vs Senan Kelly (10-1, 2 KOs) in the welterweight division. It was ultimately an even opening round with Marksby using his jab to good effect, while Kelly also landed some nice shots. Kelly landed a nice combination in the second that had Marksby on the retreat.

Kelly continued his bright spell into the third, before Marksby weathered the storm and landed a nice uppercut in the final period of the third round. Over the next few rounds, Marksby began to find his groove and pick his shots impressively off the back foot. Kelly seemed to hurt his opponent in the seventh round and landed a series of punches right on the bell. That was his best moment since the early rounds.

Despite Kelly’s willingness to apply pressure and engage, Marksby moved in and out of danger, picking his attacks. Both embraced at the final bell. It was an intriguing fight throughout. The referee’s scorecards read 97-95 in favour of Ben Marksby.

Glenn Byrne vs Jacob Quinn

It was middleweight next on the Mick Conlan vs Jack Bateson undercard. Glenn Byrne (6-0-1, 1 KO) vs Jacob Quinn (8-7-1, 0 KOs) was an entertaining back-and-forth clash, with both landing heavy shots throughout. The referee scored the bout 58-56 in favour of Byrne. The Irish fighter did the smarter work, but Quinn was brave and more than had his moments.

Kieran Molloy vs Nourdeen Toure

Kieran Molloy (12-0, 7 KOs) faced Nourdeen Toure (12-5, 6 KOs) in a welterweight contest. Following a quiet first round, Molloy took over, timing his shots extremely well and showcasing power. A left hook in round two saw Molloy score a knockdown, before another knockdown in the third had Molloy smelling blood. The Irish fighter then pounced and under a flurry of punches, the referee stepped in to wave the contest off, awarding Molloy the third round TKO victory. That was impressive. We will surely see more of Kieran Molloy moving forward.

Charlie Edwards vs Salvador Juarez

Next up was Charlie Edwards (21-2, 7 KOs) vs Salvador Juarez (20-10-2, 4 KOs) in the super flyweight division. After a slow opening round, Edwards found his groove in the second, moving and picking his shots swiftly. Edwards’ shot selection and accuracy stood out over the next few rounds as he began to dominate the fight. Juarez tried to cut the ring off and disrupt the Brit, but he was too slick for the Mexican in the first half of the fight.

Juarez landed his best shot in the fifth round, but Edwards ultimately took the shot well. The Brit quickly reasserted his dominance, showcasing impressive speed and accuracy in his punches. Edwards continued to vary his attacks and outbox Juarez. The fight ultimately went to the judges’ scorecards, who scored it 99-91 x2, with one inexplicably scoring it 96-94, awarding Edwards the WBC international super flyweight title.

Cain Lewis vs Erick Omar Lopez

In the featherweight division, it was Cain Lewis (9-0-1, 2 KOs) vs Erick Omar Lopez (17-31-3, 10 KOs) up next. Lewis started confidently, moving and landing smart combinations during the first two rounds. Lopez struggled to deal with the tempo set by Lewis, who cruised to victory, with the referee’s scorecard reading 40-36.

Kevin Cronin vs Grant Dennis

Next up on the Mick Conlan vs Jack Bateson undercard in the super middleweight division, it was Kevin Cronin (10-3-1, 5 KOs) vs the experienced Grant Dennis (19-15, 3 KOs). The opening round was competitive, with Dennis showing his experience, before Cronin increased the tempo in the next round, mixing his shots well. Dennis enjoyed promising moments, but the volume and quality came from Cronin, who deserved the 59-55 victory.

Dan Toward vs Khalid Ennachat

Next up was Dan Toward (7-1, 5 KOs) vs Khalid Ennachat (8-3, 2 KOs) in the middleweight division. Toward settled quickly, finding a consistent home for the left hand. He looked light on his feet, worked well off his jab, and was ultimately too sharp for Ennachat, who struggled to land in the early rounds. Toward countered effectively and stayed in control until the seventh, when Ennachat had his best spell. The Spaniard caught the Brit with a big right hand in the final round, leaving him on shaky legs, but Toward managed to survive the last 90 seconds to hear the final bell. The referee’s scorecard read 77-74 in favour of the Newcastle fighter.

Codie Smith vs Mario Vera

In the opening fight of the night, it was Codie Smith (7-0-1, 0 KOs) vs Mario Vera (8-8, 3 KOs) in the super featherweight division. It was a dominant performance from Smith, who stayed patient and looked sharp, picking his shots impressively throughout. Vera was unable to land much of note, and unsurprisingly the referee’s scorecard read 60-54.
