Miller next possible opponent for Fury
What if I told you that heavyweight contender Jarrell Miller is one of the names that surfaced as a possible opponent to face Tyson Fury in the fall?
No seriously, this is being floated around.
Miller was ringside for Fury’s Las Vegas debut where he made quick work of Tom Schwarz on Saturday night.
He was initially scheduled to face Anthony Joshua on June 1, but he was pulled from the fight after coming up positive for several banned performance enhancing drugs in three separates drug tests. Miller was replaced by Andy Ruiz, who pulled off an upset victory when he stopped Joshua in seven rounds for the WBO, IBF, IBO, WBA titles.
Fury said he would fight again this year in late September or early October, before the much anticipated rematch with WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder in 2020.
Miller has already spoken to Fury’s co-promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank.
“Tyson looked like Tyson – he did his thing. It was the right opponent for the right occasion. My suspension is up in September and I think October would be more of a great date and I wouldn’t mind October. I’d be ready for it if I got the shout from Top Rank, I’d take it straight away,” Miller told Declan Taylor.
“I’ve had conversations with Bob Arum already so we will see – you never know. I’m going back to the drawing board, I won’t be the first and I won’t be the last, believe that. Hell yeah I can repair my reputation – I’m Big Baby Miller and I kick ass.”
Frank Warren, who is the lead promoter for Fury, would not confirm or deny that Miller is a frontrunner to face his man.
“I don’t know exactly what Miller’s position is at the moment but it’s something we will look at. We will look at all options. The whole team will sit down and we will make a decision. I’m sure an American opponent would be the best option but let’s wait and see. We will look at the rankings and it’s something we’ll work out this week,” Warren said.
Another name that has surfaced as well for Tyson Fury is Kubat Pulev for a potential showdown to take place.
