Rolly Romero vs Teofimo Lopez set for August 22 Las Vegas dustup

Rolly Romero vs Teofimo Lopez is a fight with many questions to answer for both fighters.

Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) will be defending the WBA title for the first time since they elevated him. He hasn’t fought since beating Ryan Garcia on May 2, 2025.

Lopez (22-2, 13 KOs) has recorded some brilliant wins during his career, including against Josh Taylor and Vasiliy Lomachenko. Last time out against Shakur Stevenson, he was thoroughly outclassed throughout the bout, losing his WBO and Ring Magazine super lightweight titles.

Antonio Tarver weighs in on Rolly Romero vs Teofimo Lopez

Speaking on the upcoming Rolly Romero vs Teofimo Lopez fight, Tarver said: “I think Teo has to be looking to be the faster guy, looks to throw more punches, and be a lot more active than Rolly, who’s trying to land that big bomb.

“He’s going to have to get on his technique in this fight, I believe. The fundamentals. Stay behind that jab, and throw combinations, and I think that gives Teo the best chance to win. He’s gonna have to be light on his feet. I think that gives him the advantage, because like I said, Rolly is plodding in there. That’s why I say Teo can do a lot more. He has a lot more options.

“Which one he uses, to give himself the best chance to win, that all depends. I think Rolly has to do one thing great in order to win this fight, and that’s be him, and use all of his unorthodox ability to his advantage.”
