Pierce O’Leary vs Mark Chamberlain
After an impressive undercard, it was time for Pierce O’Leary vs Mark Chamberlain in the main event for O’Leary’s IBO super lightweight world title.
It was an interesting opening round, with O’Leary (19-1, 11 KOs) looking light on his feet, moving in and out, but Chamberlain (18-1-1, 13 KOs) worked well off his jab and had success with his straight left. What a second round! O’Leary closed the distance well and looked to be getting the better of the round, and hurt Chamberlain with a right hand. The Portsmouth fighter stunned the home crowd, landing a left hand, knocking O’Leary down, who needed to hang on to hear the bell.
Chamberlain enjoyed another dream round in the third, landing shot after shot. The Portsmouth man looked comfortable at range and in the pocket. Another left hand floored O’Leary again, with the crowd in disbelief, with many watching in the front row at ringside. The fourth round was just what the Irish fighter needed, as he applied pressure and let his hands go. Chamberlain had his moments again, but it was a much better round from O’Leary.
After two strong rounds from O’Leary, Chamberlain enjoyed success in the sixth round, using his jab to control the pace and put his combinations together well. Chamberlain looked to be getting the better of the seventh round when “Big Bang” pinned him in the corner and landed a huge right to the body, knocking him down.
The eighth round was another good one from O’Leary, who threw in bunches and outworked the challenger. The fight appeared to be swinging O’Leary’s way when Chamberlain stunned the Irish fighter with an uppercut and followed up with a series of heavy shots, sending him crashing to the canvas and the referee rightfully waving the fight off. Mark Chamberlain is the new IBO super lightweight world champion!
Royston Barney-Smith vs Reece Bellotti
Royston Barney-Smith (17-0, 8 KOs) vs Reece Bellotti (20-8, 15 KOs) were up next, meeting for the vacant IBO inter-continental title and for Barney-Smith’s WBO super featherweight European title.
It was a blistering start from Barney-Smith, using his feet well, controlling the distance and hurting Bellotti. RBS continued to showcase his fast hand speed and impressive shot selection in the second round. Bellotti did close the distance towards the end of the round, but couldn’t land anything of note.
Bellotti showed his bravery over the next couple of rounds, but RBS looked sharp, putting his shots together well, and varying his work. Bellotti continued to apply pressure in the sixth round, but Barney-Smith looked excellent when he moved off the ropes and showed great variation and accuracy.
“Bomber” enjoyed some good moments in the eighth round, landing some eye-catching punches. The cleaner work still came from Barney-Smith, but it was a good round for Bellotti, who continued to come forward until the final bell. However, RBS looked fresh until the end, moving and showing excellent variation. A coming-of-age performance from Smith, but it feels like there is so much more to come! The judge’s scorecards read 98-92, 99-91, 100-90, giving RBS the unanimous decision victory, making him the IBO inter-continental and WBO European champion.
Adam Olaniyan vs Deepak Pathak
Up next on the Pierce O’Leary vs Mark Chamberlain undercard was the Irish heavyweight sensation Adam Olaniyan (3-0, 3 KOs) vs the late replacement Deepak Pathak (1-6, 1 KO).
Olaniyan quickly got on top in the first round, showcasing his impressive variation and power. His ramrod jab stood out, as did his body shots. Pathak did well to hear the bell. The 20-year-old Irish fighter started the second round on top and quickly landed a straight right, which looked to be sending Pathak down, with Olaniyan landing a cuffing left hook for good measure.
Despite beating the count, the referee had no complaints from Pathak as he waved the fight off. Olaniyan should be back out on the Katie Taylor vs Flora Pili undercard on September 5. This kid looks destined for a bright future!
Steven Cairns vs Senan Kelly
Next up in the super lightweight division was Steven Cairns (15-0, 10 KOs) vs Senan Kelly (12-2, 2 KOs).

Kelly had more success in the third, changing levels in his work, but Cairns still landed the more eye-catching work. Kelly continued to show bravery, but the quality work came from Cairns, who in the fifth round landed a beautifully timed counter left hook, knocking Kelly down heavily. He did well to make it to his feet, but Cairns smelt blood. Kelly touched down again soon after, but the referee did not register it as a knockdown. Another sustained attack followed, and the referee jumped in to wave the fight off, awarding Steven Cairns the fifth-round TKO victory. Many wondered if Cairns could carry his power moving up in weight. The 24-year-old answered unanimously.
Ben Fail vs Craig O’Brien
The first fight on the Pierce O’Leary vs Mark Chamberlain main undercard was Ben Fail (12-0, 7 KOs) vs Craig O’Brien (15-5, 2 KOs) for the vacant WBA continental super welterweight title.

In the third round, O’Brien moved well and picked his punches and out-worked Fail. At the halfway point of the fight, Fail had eye-catching success, but O’Brien continued to work hard. The Irish fighter began to tire in the sixth round, something the commentary team picked up on.

Ben Fail is the new WBA continental super welterweight Champion. O’Brien was tough, but that was a great KO shot from “Big Ben.”
