Robson Conceição Wins Shocking Split Decision Against O’Shaquie Foster

Robson Conceição (19-2-1, 9 KOs, 1 NC) won a shocking split decision against O’Shaquie Foster (22-3, 12 KOs) to become the world champion.

While one judge saw it 116-112 for Foster, the other two had it 116-112 and 115-113 for Conceição. The two scores for the Brazilian came as a shock, considering he struggled to land against Foster. The American was defensively sound for the entire fight, appearing to win a wide unanimous decision. Incredibly, two judges scored it for Conceição, making him the new WBC super featherweight champion.

The fight occurred just before Shakur Stevenson took on Artem Harutyunyan at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. Fight fans in the United States could watch the Top Rank card live on ESPN, ESPN+ and ESPN Deportes. Those in the United Kingdom and Ireland could do so on Sky Sports while TSN+ had the action for those in Canada.

Robson Conceição Beats O’Shaquie Foster in Shock Split Decision

Fight Recap

The fight began with Conceição mainly pressing forward with the reigning champion content with boxing off the back foot. Foster showed sound defence in the early rounds, consistently making his opponent miss. While Conceição was not landing many punches, Foster himself was also not landing much with his approach.

A clash of heads in round nine bloodied the right eyes of both men, but it did not impact the pace of the fight. No matter what Conceição did, he struggled to land against a defensively sound opponent. Foster was content with the pace he was fighting at, constantly moving off of the back foot and countering. As the final bell rang, it appeared Foster had done enough to win. The judges, however, saw things differently and awarded Conceição the split decision.

“That’s what I’m saying, I thought that was a shutout. I don’t know, man. I thought it was an easy fight. Didn’t get touched but the headbutt, but like, I don’t know man.”

Undercard Results

Keyshawn Davis (11-0, 7 KOs, 1 NC) won a unanimous decision against Miguel Madueño (31-3, 28 KOs) in a 10-round lightweight fight. Scores were 99-91 across the board.

Abdullah Mason (14-0, 12 KOs) won via third-round technical knockout against Luis Lebron (20-6-1, 13 KOs). The time of stoppage for this eight-round lightweight clash was 1:18. Mason sent his opponent to the canvas twice in round two. He continued to dominate in the third, eventually causing Lebron’s corner to put an end to the bout.

ESPN+ Exclusive Undercard Results

Eridson Garcia (19-1, 12 KOs) won a unanimous decision against William Foster III (17-2, 11 KOs, 1 NC). Scores for the 10-round super featherweight fight were 99-91 and 98-92.

Keith Colon (1-0, 1 KO) won via second-round technical knockout against Hunter Turbyfill (4-2, 1 KO). The time of stoppage for this four-round featherweight bout was 2:03. After a barrage of punches from Colon, the referee put an end to proceedings.

Kelvin Davis (13-0, 7 KOs) won a majority decision against Kevin Johnson (12-4, 8 KOs) in an eight-round super lightweight clash. While one judge saw it 76-76, the other two had Davis winning on scores of 78-74.

Opening the broadcast, Ali Feliz (3-0, 2 KOs) won a unanimous decision against Robinson Perez (2-1, 0 KOs). Scores for the four-round heavyweight contest were 40-36 across the board.
