Mayer Talks Fighting in England and Moving up in Weight

The Colorado Springs fighter sounded in good spirits talking to Rafael, and when asked about how she was feeling in camp, she said: “I’m doing great.” She quickly spoke about feeling much more comfortable preparing for a welterweight fight than at lower weights.

This will be Mayer’s fourth fight in a row in England, and speaking about this, she referred to the fight on January 20 as a strategic move “to get myself back into position.

Speaking about herself and Jonas, she mentioned about both their amateur pedigrees and declared: “Were pioneers in this sport.”

Rafael went on to ask Mayer about moving through the weights: “Just letting my body fill out the tiniest bit, it wanted to keep going. 135 was no different to 130 to me.

Alycia Baumgardner

Dan Rafael went on to ask Mayer about her feelings regarding Baumgardner, and she was forthright regarding her opinion about her rival and her failed test for a banned substance: “Her whole legacy is a question.” She continued: “I believe it’s true. When asked about a potential rematch with Baumgardner, Mayer said: “She doesn’t deserve any of our attention or any of our respect until she clears her name, which I don’t think she’s going to be able to do. She should have already been stripped.
