William Zepeda Scores KO + Canelo Returns To Mexico And More

It was a light weekend of action in the ring with only one big promotion having a show, but William Zepeda delivered in it. And, there is fight news, some great heavyweight nostalgia and more on the latest “Fight Freaks Unite Recap” podcast!

Host T.J. Rives returns with insider Dan Rafael of his Fight Freaks Unite Substack and BigFightWeekend.com to go over it all.

The guys recap unbeaten lightweight contender William Zepeda scoring a huge second round KO over Jaime Arboleda. in the Golden Boy Promotions main event in Arlington, TX. Zepeda improved to 28-0, 24 KOs and is ranked in the top five by the WBA and the WBC. What are Dan’s thoughts on his win, Zepeda’s future at 135 lb. and he recaps the rest of the card in Texas.

Next, we have some fight news on Jake Paul’s MVP Promotions doing a deal for a fight series coming up on future Friday nights on DAZN to be know as “Most Valuable Prospects.” Dan has more on that series and the guys discuss Paul’s obvious good nature in looking out for lesser known and probably underpaid fighters. There’s also more on Jared “Real Big Baby” Anderson, who will headline in July for Top Rank and Dan has the details on his opponent for the ESPN show.

Heavyweight Nostalgia

And, the boys do some tremendous nostalgia on the first fight Dan covered in his full time role with USA Today coming 23 years ago, as undisputed heavyweight champ Lennox Lewis destroyed Michael Grant at Madison Square Garden.

Dan also reminisces about six years ago and the epic Wembley Stadium London title bout with then, unified heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua and former unified champ, now hall of famer, Wladimir Klitschko, Their tremendous battle in front of over 90,000 fans was eventually won on a TKO by Joshua. That remains the signature win of the Brit’s career.

The guys also take a quick look ahead to the week that includes Canelo back in the ring in Mexico with England’s John Ryder this Saturday night on PPV.

And, Gervonta Davis goes before a Baltimore judge Friday to be sentenced on his hit and run auto accident guilty plea in 2020. Davis is facing significant jail time.
