Hear More On ‘Zurdo’ Missing Weight / DAZN Broadcast Saturday Issues

We have more on the Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez weight miss costing us the planned main event for the Saturday Golden Boy Promotions/DAZN show on  the latest edition of the “Fight Freaks Unite Recap” podcast

The card was salvaged, when Mercito Gesta’s scored a split decision over Joseph “JoJo” Diaz in a fight that was elevated to main event status, but also, was not without its problems.

On the show, insider Dan Rafael of BigFightWeekend.com, and I discussed the whole “weight gate” mess with Ramirez being at least 12 lb. overweight mid-week last week and choosing not to officially weigh-in as he was still some 7 lb. over the light heavyweight limit. Therefore, his already questionable main event with Gabriel Rosado was cancelled altogether.

Further, we discussed DAZN’s brutal production issues Saturday night with the show originating from the campus of Long Beach State University that delayed the televised card from beginning for over 45 minutes. Not a good look.

Dan has more on heavyweight Jarrell Miller’s sixth-round knockout of Lucas Browne in Dubai and what it could lead to for the multi time drug test offender “Big Baby” down the road.

Dan, also has more on the confusion over the number of rounds the Diaz-Gesta elevated main event was scheduled for and why the sudden increase in weight to 140 lb. due to Diaz’s apparent weight issues making the lightweight limit of 130 lb.

Once in the ring, we have more on the Filipino born Gesta’s entertaining split decision over Diaz and thoughts on why two scorecards were lopsided for Gesta and yet, the third one was decisive for Diaz? It went right along with the rest of Golden Boy/DAZN’s weekend of confusion and issues.

Dan has more on what he’s calling “the quagmire of the Tyson Fury-Oleksandr Usyk undisputed heavyweight title fight talks,” and how it’s further complicated now, by a WBA deadline for signed contracts? It’s obvious as this week starts, that hopes are fading fast the sides will get a deal done for a possible April 29th date.

There’s news on Luis Alberto Lopez heading to Belfast, Northern Ireland to defend his featherweight title against Michael Conlan coming in May.

Also, Oscar Valdez is being slated to fight Adam Lopez in a rematch on the Devin Haney-Vasiliy Lomachenko PPV card from Top Rank in May, as well.

Finally, as we usually do, we take a look back fondly at some nostalgia. This, as Sunday was the 18th anniversary of Erik Morales’ huge and extremely underrated victory over a prime Manny Pacquiao in a fantastic and historic battle.
