WBO Orders Terence Crawford vs. Sebastian Fundora for Intriguing Title Fight

Terence Crawford made a successful debut at super welterweight, defeating Israil Madrimov for the WBA super welterweight title and the vacant WBO interim belt. It was the first step in becoming the first undisputed three-division champion in the four-belt era. The next step for Crawford has seemingly moved forward, with the WBO ordering “Bud” to face the WBC and WBO champion, Sebastian Fundora.

Crawford Moves Closer to Creating History

The World Boxing Organization have ordered Crawford-Fundora and the relevant parties have 30 days to strike an agreement or the bout will go to purse bids. They consider Crawford a “super” champion and if Fundora rejects fighting “Bud” he will be stripped of his WBO strap.

Turki Alalshikh had recently stated that he believed the only fight the Omaha native wanted was Canelo. However, the chance to meet Fundora who holds the WBC and WBO titles following his bloody triumph over Tim Tszyu is surely a fascinating prospect for “Bud,” which could see him become the unified champ at super welterweight.

It remains to be seen if an agreement can be struck, and if it does, will the fight take place in Saudi Arabia or will it take place in the U.S. like Fundora wants?

Rest of the Division

The remainder of the division will take shape on October 19, with Tim Tszyu taking on the IBF champion Bakhram Murtazaliev in the main event of a PBC on Prime card at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida. The winner will surely meet the victor of Crawford-Fundora for the undisputed title at 154.

If an agreement is struck, Crawford-Fundora will seemingly happen this year. PBC reportedly holds dates in Las Vegas in November and December 14 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

The 154 division is taking shape, and with Errol Spence Jr. and Vergil Ortiz Jr. also in the mix, its a division with plenty of twists and turns to come.
