Antonio Vargas recent form
Vargas (19-1-1, 11 KOs) was elevated to the full champion for the second time, having landed the interim title in December 2024 against Winston Guerrero. The Houston native was then elevated before defending the title against Daigo Higa in July, with their bout ending in a draw.
Vargas then became champion in recess after a fight with former champion Seiya Tsutsumi was postponed for a third time. Tsutsumi has now been placed in the same position after not being able to face Vargas, who was then elevated again, leading to the upcoming showdown with Jesse Bam Rodriguez.
Jesse Bam Rodriguez recent form
Jesse Bam Rodriguez (23-0, 16 KOs) is considered a top-five pound-for-pound fighter by many. He has recorded many impressive wins, including against Sunny Edwards to unify the flyweight division. Other notable victories came against Carlos Cuadras, Juan Francisco Estrada, and Pedro Guevara. Last time out, Rodriguez produced a career-best performance to beat Fernando Martinez to win the WBA super flyweight title.
Bam was eager to face the IBF champion Willibaldo Garcia, but was unable to, and Garcia lost his belt by majority decision to Andrew Moloney. This inability to get an undisputed showdown has seen Bam look to move up in weight.
Antonio Vargas vs Bam Rodriguez prediction
Vargas is tough; no one can doubt that. He has strong footwork and high resilience, ensuring he stays competitive in his fights. He’s a problem on the outside and inside for his opponents. Everything he’s ever said and what we know means Vargas will believe he can become the first fighter to beat Rodriguez.
Bam has proven he carries plenty of power. His lateral movement is exceptional, often helping him pivot away from danger and create angles for his own attacks. Rodriguez is difficult to pin down because his movement is so swift, and his guard is consistently high. He puts his punches together impressively, and we are backing Bam to wear the champion down and get a late-round stoppage to become the new WBA bantamweight champion.
