‘The UFC is in tatters’: Eddie Hearn launches fresh attack on Zuffa Boxing

Hostilities between Eddie Hearn and Zuffa Boxing appear to be showing little signs of slowing down. Both have claimed to be ahead of the other, with Conor Benn leaving Matchroom for Zuffa, only fanning those flames. While in Sheffield for the Matchroom fight card, headlined by Josh Padley vs Aqib Fiaz, Matchroom Sport chairman Eddie Hearn spoke to The Stomping Ground, launching a scathing attack on Zuffa Boxing.

Eddie Hearn takes fresh swipe at Zuffa Boxing

Speaking to The Stomping Ground, Hearn did not hold back when speaking on the current state of Zuffa Boxing:

“Zuffa have got lawsuits coming out of their a**. TKO are getting sued left, right and centre. The UFC is in tatters. I’m happy to stand back and let these guys have a fight. We’re just doing our thing, as we said, Bam against Vargas next week. 13-14,000 in Phoenix.

“Boots against Zayas, 16,000 sold out. AJ back, the biggest star in boxing, against Prenga in Jeddah. He’ll fight Tyson Fury in the biggest fight of all time. Probably Bam against Inoue. We’ll stick in 80,000 in Croke Park for Katie Taylor. Ben Whittaker will be headlining in a big fight. Dalton Smith will be selling out the place here (Utilita Arena Sheffield) against (Alberto) Puello. We’ll probably do Callum Smith vs Buatsi for the world title in an unbelievable 7v7.

“I don’t think Zuffa have broken into the top 10 in terms of promotional outfits. I said it earlier, and it was no disrespect to Ben Shalom, but Ben Shalom is on another level to Zuffa. The shows that Ben Shalom puts on…the knowledge that he has about boxing is on another level to Zuffa. They just don’t get it.”

Hearn takes aim at Zuffa’s ‘vision’

Zuffa have so far had some bright moments, including some entertaining fights at the Apex in Las Vegas, with their most recent event headlined by Chris Billam-Smith vs Ryan Rozicki in Bournemouth. Hearn has received praise for continuing with the June 6 card, after the main event between Dalton Smith and Alberto Puello was cancelled due to an injury sustained by Smith, as was its replacement between Galal Yafai and Ricardo Sandoval after the Brit sustained an injury.

Hearn, when speaking to The Stomping Ground, showed no mercy towards White:

“When Dana White says: ‘We’re going to bring something completely different to boxing’. ‘These guys have no vision.’ So their vision is to bring a couple of WWE geezers and do a Q&A on a Friday, or do a grey ring mat, and make everyone wear terrible Zuffa gloves and shorts. That’s the vision,” added Hearn.
