Josh Padley vs Aqib Fiaz

After an entertaining undercard, it was time for Josh Padley vs Aqib Fiaz for Padley’s European super featherweight title.

Padley (19-1, 6 KOs) enjoyed a strong opening round, targeting the body of Fiaz (14-2, 2 KOs) to good effect. Fiaz looked sharper towards the end of the round. Fiaz enjoyed a much better second round, applying pressure and showcasing his quick hands. Fiaz had success in the third round, applying pressure and landing his own body shots. Padley refused to take a step back in the third and continued to have his own success.

It was a brilliant fourth round, with both landing big body shots, and the referee even taking a tumble near the bell. The cleaner work came from Padley in the fourth, but the pressure from Fiaz was eye-catching. The action continued in the fifth, with both having notable success, but again, the cleaner work came from Paddy.

Padley continued to produce the smarter work, using his jab effectively, and the 1-2 combination was working. Fiaz continued to be brave, but received his second and final warning for low punches in the eighth round. Every time Fiaz had success, Padley fired back to wrestle control back. After a strong ninth round from Fiaz, Padley impressed in the tenth, throwing eye-catching combinations, which saw him win the key moments in the round.

In the eleventh round, Fiaz, after persistent infractions for low blows, was finally deducted a point for rushing in with his head up. After two cancelled main events, Josh Padley vs Aqib Fiaz stepped up and delivered an entertaining 12 rounds. Fiaz showed bravery throughout and had his moments, including in the final round, but Padley paced himself well and put his punches together for the entire fight. The fight went to the judge’s scorecards, which read 115-112 for Padley, while one had it 114-113 for Fiaz. The final judge scored it 114-113 for Padley. The scorecards were a little bit close for our liking, but the right man got his hand raised. It was a brilliant fight!

Ibrahim Nadim vs Ibraheem Sulaimaan

Up next was the intriguing English super featherweight title clash between Ibrahim Nadim (16-2, 2 KOs) and Ibraheem Sulaimaan (11-0, 5 KOs).

It was an intriguing opening round, with Nadim taking the centre of the ring, but Sulaimaan looked the sharper with his work. Over the next couple of rounds, Sulaimaan began to take control, boxing with poise, picking moments impressively. Nadim applied more pressure in the fourth, but Sulaimaan continued to punish every movement from Nadim.

Sulaimaan continued to box well on the back foot. Nadim continued to walk forward, but the Birmingham southpaw continued to put his shots together and move slickly, making Nadim mostly miss. Spider continued to box with patience and fire off his combinations at the right time. Ibby tried to apply pressure and had moments with single shots, but the slick movement and sharp punching from Sulaimaan ensured he captured the English title, with the judge’s scorecards reading 100-90 x2, and 98-92 all in favour of the new English super featherweight champion Ibraheem Spider Sulaimaan!

Leo Atang vs Fouad Shaili

Up next was Leo Atang (7-0, 6 KOs) vs Fouad Shaili (5-5-2, 3 KOs) in the heavyweight division. Atang started quickly on the front foot and soon started to tee off on Shaili, who threw back very little. Atang landed some big shots, but some punches were missing.

Shaili just didn’t throw enough back, and the referee soon stepped in to wave it off, awarding Atang the first-round TKO victory. Maybe a tad premature on the stoppage, but it was only going one way.

Aaron Bowen vs Troy Coleman

In the opening fight of the Josh Padley vs Aqib Fiaz main card, we saw Aaron Bowen (8-1, 6 KOs) vs Troy Coleman (15-5-1, 7 KOs) in the middleweight division.

Bowen utilised his jab well in the opening round, with Coleman having limited success, with his best moment coming with a flush right hand. In the second round, Bowen was the aggressor, landing some hurtful shots, including a body shot that seemingly hurt Coleman.

Bowen continued to move through the gears and enjoyed a strong third round, picking his punches well and ending the round on top. Despite being outworked for much of the fourth, Coleman did land the punches of the round towards the end. During the first half of the fight, whenever Bowen looked like he was getting on top, Coleman fired back.

The Coventry fighter landed a big right hand that rocked Coleman. Bowen showed patience throughout the rest of the round, picking his punches impressively and with venom. A stoppage looked close, but Coleman did well to survive the round. The eighth round was another big one for Bowen, who bossed it with his jab and continuously hurt Coleman throughout the round, who showed immense bravery.

The domination from Bowen continued in the ninth round, but after another big right hand, the referee jumped in to wave the fight off, and award Bowen the ninth-round TKO win.
