On Saturday, March 16, we saw William Zepeda (30-0, 26 KOs) defeat English fighter Maxi Hughes (26-7-2, 5 KOs) at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Chelsea Ballroom, Las Vegas. The Golden Boy fight card was broadcast live on DAZN.

In the opening round, Zepeda got his jab going, which gave the Mexican a great starting point to work off. He comfortably walked the English fighter down in the second round, overwhelming him with the sheer volume of punches he was throwing and variation in his work. Hughes tried to time his punches better, to keep Zepeda at bay, but the Mexican was relentless with his work.

The fourth round saw Zepeda back the Englishman against the ropes with big hooks. As the round went on, “Camaron” began to hurt and overwhelm his opponent. Despite the bravery of “Maximus,” the volume of accurate shots from his opponent was becoming too much for Hughes to deal with. Before the fifth round began, the Brit’s corner decided to pull their man out of the fight. This was impressive from the Mexican, with his relentless output making it difficult to see any lightweight in the world dealing with this all-action style.

Floyd Schofield (17-0, 12 KOs) defeated Esteuri Suero (13-2, 10 KOs) in the fifth round of their lightweight bout – retaining his WBA International title. The fight was ultimately ruled a DQ loss for Suero, who was constantly warned for low blows.
Eric Priest (13-0, 8 KOs) defeated Jose Sanchez Charles (21-5-1, 12 KOs) by unanimous decision in their 10-round middleweight clash with the judge’s scorecards reading 100-90, 99-91 x2.
Tristan Kalkreuth (13-1, 9 KOs) stopped Marquice Weston (15-3-1, 8 KOs) in the second round of their cruiserweight clash.
Joel Iriarte (1-0, 1 KO) was successful on his professional debut, beating Bryan Carguacundo (3-6-2, 0 KOs) by second-round TKO.
