Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24KOs) vs. Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14KOs) has received a new date, with Turki Alalashikh revealing on the MMA Hour podcast with Ariel Hewani that the undisputed clash will now happen on May 18. The fight was due to happen on February 17 – but Fury sustained a nasty eye injury in a similar area to his cut against Otto Wallin on September 14, 2019.

Fury vs Usyk Confirmed for May 18

Just 24 hours after the disappointment of the postponement, the undisputed fight is alive, with May 18 now the confirmed date. On the MMA Hour podcast, Turki Alalashikh, chairman of General Authority and Entertainment in Saudi Arabia, confirmed the new arrangments: “We delayed it for the 18th of May.”

His Excellency was next to Fury when he made the announcement and added: “I guaranteed to both fighters ten million (dollars) if someone escapes from the fight. This is the first thing. The second thing is, I guarantee a big fight for the other one on that same night.

Reaction to Postponement

The disappointment online in the boxing world has been palpable, and no one was more upset than Fury, who addressed the postponement: “I am absolutely devastated after preparing for this fight for so long and being in such superb condition. I feel bad for everyone involved in this huge event and I will work diligently towards the rescheduled date once the eye has healed. I can only apologize to everyone affected including my own team, Team Usyk, the undercard fighters, partners, and fans as well as our hosts and my friends in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
