Tyson Fury Makes Joshua FIght Official

It looks like we may have a significant announcement this week after all regarding the mega-fight between heavyweights Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.

Fury announced on Sunday on his social media that the much-anticipated contest that the fight would be official in Saudi Arabia on August 14 as he spoke with the Prince directly in Saudi hosting the event.

“I’ve got some massive news for you. I’ve just got off the phone from Prince Khalid of Saudi Arabia. He’s just told me the fight is 100 percent on August 14, 2021, summertime. All eyes of the world will be on the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. And I cannot wait, I repeat, cannot wait to smash Anthony Joshua on the biggest stage of all time,” Fury said on his social media Sunday.

It is worth noting in this endless and glacial pace that this fight took to get organized and final because Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn was the main mouthpiece of this matchup ran into the roadblock of getting the money from Saudi Arabia to make this happen in a timely matter. So much so, that it became recently farcical that Hearn had to explain to the media and everyone who would listen to that he was still waiting to have that news “next week” on a fight that was announced in principal over two years ago.

The second issue was the date which is now locked in for August 14.

One reason was that Fury and his aside have threatened to walk away from the matchup as he wanted to stay active in the ring, as Fury hasn’t fought since defeating Deontay Wilder back in February 2019. The date of August 14 falls outside of the potential Olympics taking place in Tokyo.

The long rumored fight has been delayed while Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing and Bob Arum of Top Rank Boxing and Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions continued to wait to see if fans could attend and where?

The phone call Fury received from the Prince today is also because it is the end of the Islamic Holiday week that just took place, and it is now business as usual over in the UAE.

Joshua, who defeated Kubrat Pulev in London by KO last December, has also fought in Saudi Arabia with his 2019 decision win over Andy Ruiz in their rematch.

So with all of this talk out the way, we await the official announcement of this fight, and while they work on the stadium to host the event, all of the other details as well.
