Tony Bellew Praises Moses Itauma as Heavyweight’s Brightest Prospect

Moses Itauma (11-0, 9 KOs) enjoyed an exceptional 2024, winning all three fights by stoppage. He has been praised in many quarters and impressed on the biggest stages. Tony Bellew is the latest to talk about the 20-year-old and has tipped him for a hugely successful 18 months.

Bellew Discusses Exceptional Moses Itauma

The Chatham fighter is fast becoming one of the most talked about heavyweights in boxing. His most recent victories over Mariusz Wach and Demsey McKean have seen the 20-year-old receive widespread praise with George Groves saying: “I think Moses Itauma is a harder fight than Daniel Dubois for Usyk.”

Bellew was asked by Casino Utan Spelpaus, whether he believes Itauma has what it takes to topple the likes of Daniel Dubois: “I just think he’s an exceptional fighter,  Everything about him, his demeanor, his attitude, everything. He’s in his own time. He presses when he wants. He’s quality. I just think he’s very, very good. And then add to that, he’s a southpaw as well. And I think within 18 months, he’ll be fighting for a World Heavyweight title. There’s no fear. I just think, given a little bit more experience, I’d favour him to beat the next crop of heavyweights, the likes of Daniel Dubois.

Progression

The Chatham fighter has dazzled and continues to progress, appearing more than ready to step up to the world level. He moves like a super middleweight but punches like a heavyweight. He moves his feet well, ensuring he controls the distance in his fights. 2025 looks set to be a memorable year for the Ben Davison-trained fighter.

Itauma’s performances make it clear he’s ready for another step up and ex-cruiserweight and heavyweight world champion David Haye spoke about the Chatham fighter following his win over Ilja Mezencev: “I saw a future world champion.” He continued: “I saw someone that showed all the attributes you need.”
