Ryan Garcia Reportedly Positive for PED on Devin Haney Fight Weekend

Less than two weeks after the biggest win in the ring in his career, Ryan Garcia is now embroiled in the biggest controversy of his career. This, as he has reportedly tested positive for at least one banned performance enhancing substance in a VADA drug test surrounding his victory over WBC junior welterweight champion Devin Haney in New York.

Our insider Dan Rafael broke the story Wednesday night that he’s learned from sources that the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) testing showed that Garcia had the banned drug ostarine in his urine for both the pre-fight April 19th and post-fight April 20th drug tests.

Ryan Garcia Reportedly Testing Positive for Banned Substance

What Is the PED?

According to the National Institute of Health, Ostarine is a muscle building enhancer that has been used to help weakened cancer patients. They further write about the drug,

“Ostarine is the most popular compound in the selective androgen receptor modulator group (SARMs). Ostarine is used as a physical performance-enhancing agent. The abuse of this agent in higher doses may lead to severe side effects…”

Rafael went on to report that VADA is still doing more screening and testing to determine if the 25-year old Garcia tested positive for more PEDs in their extensive drug screening.

The “Circus” Surrounding Ryan Garcia Continues

The reported failed drug test revelation is the latest part of what became a complete side-show around Garcia’s 12 round upset of the previously unbeaten Haney at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, on April 20th.

This includes: Garcia’s partying and erratic behavior leading up to the bout and eventually, him being more than three lb. over the junior welterweight limit of 140 for the fight on that Friday afternoon. Haney and his team elected to allow Garcia to pay a financial penalty to them to keep the main event for the pay-per-view intact.

Garcia, 25-1, 20 KOs, then proceeded to rock Haney with a big left hand early on in the first round of the fight and later scored three different knockdowns in the 7th, 10th and 11th rounds of the bout on his way to a stunning majority decision win. Garcia had been a 6 to 1 underdog against the multi-division world champ.

Now, that victory is obviously called into question due to the drug testing results.
