Rhiannon Dixon vs. Terri Harper: Press Conference Quotes and Fight Prediction
Rhiannon Dixon (10-0, 1 KO) soon defends her WBO lightweight title against Terri Harper (14-2-2, 6 KOs).
The two boxers headline a Matchroom Boxing card at the Park Community Arena in Sheffield, England. Boxing fans around the world can catch the action live on DAZN. Dixon became lightweight champion with a unanimous decision win against Karen Carbajal earlier this year. Saturday’s bout against Harper marks her first time defending the WBO title.
Ahead of their clash, both women spoke at a press conference. Below is some of what they had to say.
Rhiannon Dixon vs. Terri Harper Press Conference Quotes
Rhiannon Dixon
“I still can’t believe it,” said Dixon on being a world champion. “Genuinely can’t believe it. I feel like it’s just the beginning now. I can’t wait to see what’s next.”
“Oh yeah, definitely. I think it’s [winning world title] boosted my confidence massively. I feel like at the beginning, when I was on DAZN and Matchroom first, I had a bit of imposter syndrome. Like I had seven white collar fights and you had all these other amateurs on the stage saying ‘oh I’ve won this and I’ve won that’ and I was like ‘oh my God I’ve literallyfought in nightclubs and I’m up on the stage with these people.’ But, since winning the world title and going from Commonwealth to European to world title I feel like it’s boosting my confidence and now I know I belong at this stage.”
Terri Harper
“The best it’s ever felt,” said Harper about her body having come down in weight from welterweight. “I feel like a new person really. It’s nice not to be carrying around all that extra muscle and that extra weight and I just feel like I found this free speed. Like in training, it’s easier to train and I think that for the first time I’ve actually enjoyed the weight cut and appreciated it. It’s made, pardon the pun, but it’s made me hungrier for the win on Saturday night.”
“Obviously, I’m disappointed in my performance in that [Sandy Ryan] fight. I kind of [came] away a bit embarrassed. I can remember at press conference and I was telling Sandy I’m going to give you the hardest fight you’ve had and went out there and that [the stoppage loss] happened. And I guess I learned from that fight that there’s weight divisions in boxing for a reason and I’m just grateful to be put back into such a big fight so soon. down at my natural weight and I’m very grateful to Matchroom and Rhiannon and her team for giving me this opportunity.”
Fight Prediction
Harper has spent her last few fights at either welterweight or super welterweight. Now at lightweight, she should show a lot more quickness and better movement in general. Dixon has done well in her professional career given that she entered the ranks following a brief stint in white collar boxing and had no amateur background. However, Harper’s experience should enable her to get the win. Expect Harper to win a unanimous decision.
