Undisputed Junior Featherweight Showdown Set for May 6

Top Rank have announced that Naoya Inoue will return to action on May 6 in an undisputed fight against Luis Nery. “The Monster” will look to defend all the junior featherweight belts against the Mexican fighter at the Tokyo Dome. Bob Arum has spoken about the fight and the bill also has some intriguing undercard bouts.

Inoue vs. Nery will take place alongside three additional world title fights and will stream live in the US on ESPN+. Japan’s pound-for-pound monster is set to headline this intriguing card in Tokyo, with the bill set to be the biggest-ever boxing event in Japan. “The Monster” will look to defend all his junior featherweight belts. The Japanese star and two-weight undisputed king will also be headlining the Tokyo Dome for the first time.

Top Rank chairman Bob Arum has expressed his excitement on the May 6 card: “Naoya Inoue is the world’s best fighter, a young man who amazes me every time he steps in the ring. Luis Nery is a tough challenger, but I fully expect Inoue to get the job done in front of more than 50,000 fans at the Tokyo Dome.” 

He continued:  “In addition to this incredible main event, we have a spectacular undercard highlighted by Jason Moloney, a road warrior who is coming to Japan determined to show he’s the world’s best bantamweight.”

Rest of the Card

As mentioned earlier, Australia’s WBO bantamweight world champion, Maoloney will look to defend his title against Yoshiki Takei. Takuma Inoue will also be on the card, looking to defend his WBA bantamweight strap against former world title challenger Sho Ishida.

The flyweights will also be represented as Seigo Yuri Akui will look to defend his WBA world title against Taku Kuwahara in a rematch of their 2021 bout that Akui won by 10th-round TKO.

This looks to be a memorable night of boxing at a historic venue that last hosted a professional boxing event in February 1990, when James “Buster” Douglas shocked the world and beat Mike Tyson.
