Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul: Tony Bellew Explains Press Conference Drama

Mike Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) will make his much-publicised return to the ring against Jake Paul (10-1, 7 KOs) on November 15 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Their 8×2 minute rounds heavyweight bout will be the main event of a Most Valuable Promotions card, streamed live across the globe on Netflix. The final press conference between Tyson-Paul had some drama with Tony Bellew interrupting the presser to address Paul that 107-year-old Norman who was with Bellew should fight Paul next. Immediately after the incident, Bellew spoke to TalkSPORT and revealed why he gatecrashed the press conference.

Drama in the build-up was maybe expected, but having Tony Bellew gatecrash the press conference with a 107-year-old great-grandfather was maybe not on many people’s Paul-Tyson bingo card.

The former WBC cruiserweight king caused a stir at the final presser in an apparent stunt organised by a betting company. As Bellew interrupted a question from the audience, he said: “Jake Paul, the biggest clown within boxing, if Mike lets you survive on Saturday night, I’ve got your next opponent here Jake,” were the only words that got through, due to him using his own sound device.

Despite that being the only sentence, the stunt grabbed the attention of Ariel Hewani. When speaking to TalkSPORT after the incident: “Well listen, I just needed to get it out there,” Bellew said.

The former WBC champ continued: “Seeing that Jake Paul is fighting a grandfather in my icon and hero Mike Tyson, I thought, ‘He’s going to lose to a grandfather.'”

“If he does, which hopefully he does, then I thought, ‘For his a comeback fight, if that’s the demographic he’s going on, why not fight a great-grandfather, fight Norman.'”

Talking about Norman, he said: “Norman’s the champion of the care homes, he’s 107 years old, he’s got two new hips, he’s got about 20 great-grandchildren. So I just thought, give Norman the chance.”

Bellew exclaimed: “Listen I’m not here for trouble, I’m here to point out the point of Jake Paul is fighting a grandfather on Friday night.”

Asked if he’s really here seeking a comeback payday for himself, Bellew insisted: “No, it’s not about Tony Bellew.”

“He’s never going to come near me, mate. I’ve got a pulse, he’s trying to find guys who are grandads, who are of that demographic,” said the Evertonian.

He added: “It’s not me. He couldn’t take the wind off my fart, never mind a punch.”
