Rumours surrounding a rematch between Leigh Wood (28-3-17 KOs) and Josh Warrington on May 18 have been constant since their first encounter, with the City Ground a possible venue for the second fight. Leigh Wood vs. Emanuel Navarrete
Charlie Parsons asked Wood who else was out there for him, besides the Warrington rematch: “Yeah, Cordina is a possibility. He’s a really good fighter, nice guy.” He continued: “But there’s four champions, and if I could pick anyone – that I wanted to fight – it would be (Emanuel) Navarrete because he’s number one.“

Navarrete was last seen in the ring when battled out a majority draw against Robson Conceicao. The Mexican WBO super featherweight title holder is an entertaining come-forward, high-output fighter. Navarrete is a nightmare to fight against because he carries a lot of power and punches effectively from a variety of awkward angles. He came out on top in a slugfest with Oscar Valdez before his draw with Conceicao.

Since losing to James Dickens in 2020 by majority decision, “Leigh-thal” has won five out of six fights. The only defeat in that run came against Mauricio Lara, which he avenged three months later.
The Nottingham-born fighter has been involved in plenty of entertaining moments throughout this run, including his dramatic stoppage victories over Michael Conlan and Can Xu.
