Wood Overcomes Impressive Warrington Retains WBA Featherweight Title

The first round was very scrappy before Wood switched into the southpaw stance and looked comfortable in round two. Warrington exploded into life in round three, landing some eye-catching combinations to the body and the head, and boxed brilliantly and was well on top during round four. He seemed first to the punch and continued to catch Wood during the fifth round, where he landed two solid jabs before landing a solid right, which rocked the Nottingham fighter.

The Leeds native continued his good work in round six, being first to the punch, and working well off the back foot. The bell sounded for round seven, Warrington looked in full control and just before the ten-second klaxon – “Leigh-thal” landed a vicious right hook, which drained the energy from Warrington, and he followed that up with a left-right combination, sending Warrington crashing to the canvas. The referee took a long look at the Leeds fighter before waving the contest off and awarding Wood another sensational victory, bringing back memories of Wood’s stunning win over Michael Conlan
