Lamont Roach Jr. Pummels His Way to Knockout Win Against Feargal McCrory

Lamont Roach Jr. (25-1-1, 10 KOs) could not have asked for a more dominant first defence of his world title following a technical knockout win over Feargal McCrory (16-1, 8 KOs).

The time of stoppage was 2:51 of round eight. At no point was the champion ever at risk of losing in front of his home town crowd. Roach dropped McCrory three times throughout the fight before the Irishman’s corner pulled him out of the bout.

The fight headlined a Pro Box Promotions card – in association with NoXcuse Promotions – at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington, D.C. Fight fans could catch the action live on the ProBox TV YouTube channel and website. This was Roach’s first defence of his WBA super featherweight title. He won the belt with a split decision victory over Hector Luis García in November last year.

Lamont Roach Jr. vs. Feargal McCrory Fight Recap

McCrory was busy the moment the opening bell rang, throwing several punches that kept his opponent on the back foot. Roach briefly stunned McCrory with a left hand in round two, but the Irishman stayed on his feet till the end of the second. In round three, Roach scored a knockdown by landing a check left hook.

The fight continued into the fourth round with both fighters swinging at each other. McCrory continued to pursue Roach around the ring. However, a right hand to the body sent the challenger down once more. Though he got up, a left to the body of McCrory sent him down once again soon after.

Roach continued to pummel away at McCrory, whose leaky defence caused him to get hit repeatedly with clean, hard shots. Though McCrory continued to pursue Roach around the ring, his offence was always second to that of the reigning champion. Eventually, the challenger’s corner had enough and ended proceedings.
