Joshua Buatsi Signs A Deal With BOXXER and Sky Sports

Undefeated light-heavyweight contender Joshua Buatsi signs with BOXXER with his fights being shown exclusively on Sky Sports

This morning, a press release was sent out by rising U.K. promoter BOXXER that light heavyweight contender Joshua Buatsi (16-0) has signed an exclusive deal with the company and Sky Sports, which will be in the Buatsi business for a while. It was also mentioned that his first fight would be on May 6th at the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham. Although an opponent has not been identified as of yet, this doesn’t look like a title fight against WBA champion Dmitry Bivol.

I mentioned that as Buatsi’s name has been thrown around as someone Bivol could potentially face next, but with this signing, it looks as though all roads are pointing towards Bivol facing Callum Smith, who most recently pulled out of a fight due to an injury. The intent will be to get Buatsi a shot at the title in due time, but for now, BOXXER wants to continue to build upon his promising future.

BOXXER CEO & Founder Ben Shalom said “We’re incredibly proud and excited to welcome Joshua Buatsi to the BOXXER stable. He is an exemplary role model and one of the most talented fighters we have in this country.” Shalom continued, “Buatsi wants the biggest fights possible in front of the largest possible audience to achieve his unlimited potential.  He feels he wants to make up for lost time, and we’re looking forward to sharing this journey with him as he sets out to bring major nights and titles to Britain.”

With BOXXER being excited about adding to their young & talented roster, Buatsi is motivated to get in there with the division’s biggest names. “I want to get the biggest fights on the biggest, most accessible platform for sports fans, so that’s why I’ve signed with BOXXER and Sky Sports,” said the 30-year-old contender.

It’ll be interesting to see how quickly he is moved toward a title shot with this new promotional deal, as all roads lead to either Bivol or Artur Beterbiev, the current champions at light heavyweight.
