Following on from their controversial close encounter on February 26, 2022, many in the boxing world have called for Jack Catterall (28-1, 13 KOs) vs. Josh Taylor (19-1, 13 KOs) II to be made. ESPN have now revealed the much talked about rematch has been agreed – by both fighters for April 27 in Leeds, England.

ESPN Reveal Agreement for Catterall vs. Taylor II

In February 2022, Taylor retained his undisputed junior welterweight championship with a controversial decision triumph over Catterall. Many in the boxing world have called for the rematch, with Catterall’s manager Sam Jones speaking on the negotiations recently. Catterall himself also revealed he was under the impression Taylor had agreed to the rematch, and according to ESPN, we will finally get to settle this grudge match.

During that recent interview, the Chorley-born fighter explained why he withdrew from the negotiations to fight Richardson Hitchins: “After the last fight in October, I was told by my promoter and my manager, that we were going to make the Taylor fight.”

He further explained that he accepted his side of a rematch a couple of weeks ago. Talking about the importance of the Taylor rematch, he revealed: “I believe it’s a fight he’s accepted.

According to a further update from Mike Coppinger, the much-anticipated bout will take place at 140lbs and be streamed on DAZN worldwide as part of the subscription streaming service, with ESPN+ streaming in the U.S. and TSN in Canada.

The two fighters have never held back on their opinions of each other, with many public spats on X.
