Hughie Fury-Dave Allen matchup deadline today?
If you thought we wouldn’t reach this part of the pandemic, you are sorely mistaken as today is the deadline for a deal to be finalized between Heavyweights Hughie Fury and Dave Allen.
That is not a typo.
Peter Fury, father and trainer of heavyweight Hughie Fury speaking with Sky Sports, says their team is not wanting to go beyond the end of Friday, to finalize a fight agreement with Allen. These two have been perusing a fight since June.
“Dave Allen has come up in the past, to offer to box Hughie, and every time there’s excuses,” Peter Fury said to Sky Sports.

“Dave Allen, he offered Hughie out. He wanted it, so he did an interview at first, then Hughie responded and said: ‘You haven’t got to look too far, I’ll accept it.’ We got approached by our team and [they] said: ‘He’s looking for more money Dave, would Hughie take less, so Dave Allen can have more, so we agreed to do that, and now we’re just hearing excuses,” Peter Fury said.
“Maybe they can’t go on this date, it’s all cr-p to us that. We know all the negotiations in the background. Dave Allen has come up in the past, three times at least, to offer to box Hughie, and every time there’s excuses. There’s not going to be a fourth time. If we don’t get confirmation on this by [Friday], Dave Allen will never ever share a ring with Hughie Fury, that’s a promise.”
What is the delay in this bout you ask? Simple. Allen fresh off his questionable knockout victory against Dorian Darch back in February is looking for a better amount of money to fight Fury.
“I was offered the fight last week with an amount me and my team deemed not enough. Since then I personally have received no second offer and have been waiting to hear back some news on the fight chasing it up daily but no success yet,” Allen said.
In a crowded field of heavyweights, I’d be lying to you if I said this was on my radar of fights I wanted to see go down. During a pandemic that had as a headliner Mariusz Wach win over Kevin Johnson in what normally would be the fringe opener or non-televised bout in a non-pandemic world, this couldn’t be worse.
Or can it? Deadline for this potential match is today.
