Felix Verdejo “Person Of Interest” In Missing Woman Investigation

Friday brought more details in the serious investigation into the disappearance of a woman in Puerto Rico, who is believed to be a girlfriend of Lightweight contender Felix Verdejo and according to her family, had gone to tell Verdejo she was pregnant with his child.

We wrote about the situation on Friday morning that San Juan police are actively looking for Keishla Marlen Rodríguez Ortiz, who was reported missing after not showing up to work at 7 a.m. Thursday. The 27 year old Verdejo did not answer questions from investigators on Thursday, but agreed to come with legal counsel to the San Juan CIC Police offices Friday.

That did in fact happen, as Verdejo appeared around 11:30 am San Juan time with two attorneys (shown below), while not answering any media questions on his way in.

El Nuevo Dia newspaper in San Juan reported further Friday afternoon,

The captain of the San Juan CIC, Luis Díaz Muñoz, indicated in an aside with El Nuevo Día that Verdejo “did not cooperate” during the interview, but instead remained silent on the recommendation of his lawyers.

“The interview we did with him was because Keishla’s relatives allege that they had a relationship and we summoned him to ask him if he knows of Keishla’s whereabouts, if he has seen her or if he has had communication and that was our mission. He did not answer any of the questions ”, established the captain.

Díaz Muñoz explained that Rodríguez Ortiz’s mother alleged that her daughter is pregnant with a month and a half of gestation and that the baby belongs to the boxer.

“Keishla’s mother and sister allege that they are indeed a couple and that she was pregnant by him. His mother says that he is about a month and a half, but it is corroborative since he (Verdejo) did not answer the questions, ”said the captain.

“Everything is and is part of the investigation that we began yesterday with this young woman. The Police Commissioner has given specific instructions that we use the necessary resources to locate her (Keishla), ”he added.

Verdejo’s arrival at the CIC occurred simultaneously with a Police investigation in the Pueblo Indio sector, near La Central in Canóvanas, where a citizen alerted the authorities of an abandoned car with similar characteristics to Rodríguez Ortiz, for whom The Pink Alert was activated yesterday.

That vehicle, a 2016 dark gray Kia Forte, was located, abandoned, mid-day Friday near Verdejo’s home area.

El Vocero newspaper reported that Marlen Rodriquez Ortiz’s wallet, ID, an iPad and more personal items were in the vehicle. They further reported that a fire-rescue, dive team searched the waters by the car for her without finding anything.

The paper also said Friday evening that while they didn’t find Marlen’s phone, they have determined that there were phone calls from her phone to Verdejo’s phone between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Thursday. They further reported that that the signal of Marlen’s phone ceased somewhere around 9 a.m. on Thursday.

El Vocero also said Friday night that Verdejo’s wife confirmed to police that she knew of Marlen’s relationship with Verdejo, even if he won’t say anything at this time about it.

The San Juan CIC captain Diaz-Munoz emphasized Friday afternoon that Verdejo is not a suspect at this time, while they continue to search and he was free to leave.

Verdejo, 27-2, was last in the ring this past December on the Top Rank Las Vegas show, losing to Masayoshi Nakatani in the ninth round on the undercard of the Shakur Stevenson-Toka Kahn Clary main event. It was a wild fight, where Nakatani upset Verdejo handing him a tough second pro loss.

Now, it appears his troubles are much bigger.
