Eddie Hearn Reveals Shocking Reason for Fight Cancellation

Following the conclusion of Tyler Denny defeating Felix Cash at the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham Eddie Hearn spoke to Matt Lenihan at Boxing Social – where he revealed the shocking reason he decided to pull Aqib Fiaz vs Kane Baker from the card. Matchroom Boxing had released a statement earlier in the day that read: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Aqib Fiaz vs Kane Baker 2 is now off.”

Eddie Hearn Talks ‘Betting Irregularities’

In Hearn’s interview with Boxing Social, he reflected on the card – paying tribute to Denny for his win and speaking about the action-packed fight between Lewis Crocker and Conah Walker and his encounter with Ben Shalom.

Following the reflection on the event, and towards the end of the interview, Hearn was asked about the reasons for pulling Baker vs. Fiaz II: “I don’t think there’s any point trying to keep it under wraps, Hearn said:

He continued: “I was made aware of some irregular betting activity around the fight. Once I got that information, I had to look into it, and I did that myself. I did that with our team. I did that with the gambling commission, and I made the decision to pull the fight. When I did that, I spoke to the British Boxing Board of Control and told them everything I’d done and said I’m going to pull the fight, and they agreed with me. Now it will be over to them to carry out their own investigation.”

Hearn was then asked if he had ever come across anything like this, and he said: “In 15 years I’ve never dealt with a situation like this. Pre-fight, two weeks before, six weeks out, never ever. So it was a new one for me, very disappointing. The truth will come out. All the information I was given at the time made me feel extremely uncomfortable and resulted in me pulling the fight.”

More to be Revealed

It remains to be seen if Fiaz-Baker II will happen, but it is clearly an unusual situation, with more seemingly to be revealed in due course, following the investigation by the BBBofC.
